Losing Ed McCaffrey to hernia surgery was the first blow to Denver's wide receivers. The next could involve losing restricted free-agent wide receiver Chris Cole to another team.
Cole's agent said Wednesday his client is drawing enough interest around the league that it is likely the receiver will sign an offer sheet by the NFL's April 17 deadline.
Any team that signs Cole to an offer sheet would have to be prepared to surrender a third-round pick to the Broncos, who tendered Cole with a one-year, $605,000 qualifying offer. The Broncos would retain the right to match any offer sheet Cole signs.
"There are a handful of teams interested right now, and I'm excited that other people are excited about me," said Cole, who declined to identify the teams targeting him. "I like that other teams like me.
"I've grown to love this city and the people here. It would be hard to tear me away from it. But I want to be in a situation where I can be an impact player, too."
