The Chargers are returning to Monday Night Football in 2003 when they host the Miami Dolphins for a nationally televised game at Qualcomm Stadium on Oct. 27. The last time the Chargers appeared on Monday Night Football was on Nov. 11, 1996, when they defeated the Detroit Lions, 27-21, in San Diego.
The game against the Dolphins will be the Chargers’ first night game in more than two seasons. The last time the Chargers played in primetime was on Oct. 29, 2000, when they hosted the Oakland Raiders in a Sunday night ESPN showdown.
For the second consecutive season, the Chargers will be opening on the road in 2003. After starting the 2002 season with a 34-9 victory at Cincinnati, the Chargers will be playing their first regular season game of 2003 at AFC West rival Kansas City on Sept. 7.
The Chargers will stay in the AFC West for their 2003 home opener against the Denver Broncos at Qualcomm Stadium on Sept. 14. After a second straight home game against Baltimore on Sept. 21, the Chargers will face their third AFC West rival in the first four weeks of the season when they travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders on Sept. 28.
