    N.D Kalu and Jimmy Kennedy

Just wanted to gauge the interest in these two free agents. I know we have lots of money wrapped up in our ends, but I like Kalu's upside. With all the DT's getting franchised, Kennedy seems like a low-budget option that Ralph would opt to take.

    Thoughts.......

We actually tried to sign Kennedy earlier this season but supposedly he declined a two year deal as only wanted a one year deal so not sure we'd go after him again. To me the best options at NT right now on the open market is Chuck Darby followed by Ellis Wyms, Ian Scott and Russell Davis.

In terms of Kalu, he isn't a bad option but keep in mine he's 32 so not sure how much of an upside he has. Though he's solid veteran depth but think give a guy like Al Wallace another chance being he's at least spent some brief time with the organization. That said a veteran DE isn't an immediate need in my eyes as think a healthy Ryan Denney and mid round rookie in 2008 can help make up for some of the problems we had last year.

It is very interesting that we might have looked to have signed Jimmy Kennedy because at 6ft4 and 320lbs, he's not exactly your proto-typical Tampa2 tackle.

Does this suggest that the team and front office have realised that no matter how much penetration you get into the backfied it cannot compensate for a lack of size?

If it does, then it could suggest that Sims, Balmer and Moore will be considered in depth come draft day, as they are bigger than our current tackles but have decent speed.

But in response to the question - no and no.

Most people did but the truth is PSU hasn't been churning out great NFL talent of late. See Kennedy, Arrington, Michael Haynes in recent memory that looked to be great players when in reality they were great college players. You could also add UFA Bryant Johnson to the mix as well to a certain degree. I know someone's going to bring up Poz but we still don't know how good/bad he is just yet.

From Abiliene Christian to Wyoming, find out where every active NFL pro football player spent his college days.

              Larry Johnson
              Tamba Hali
              Levi Brown
              Jay Alford
              Calvin Lowry

LJ: has been inconstant but will say earned his draft selection.

Hali's done better then thought he would but it might because he's playing opposite Jared Allen but still say good.

Levi's struggled a little but will give him a pass as he was a rookie but not sure he'll ever live up to his 5th overall billing.

Alford has only made one play of note but it was a very big play in the biggest game of the year.

Lowry's been a solid S but didn't have the high expectation that others have had.

LJ has had injury problems not been inconsistent

                  Hali I agree with it

Levi-He wont ever before #5 but he'll be a good OT

Alford-Made a number of big plays all year, I think you're under rating him

Lowry-Played well this year getting 58 tackles and two picks, and he'll battle Hope for the starters spot next year

I'd rather grab a pure pass rush specialist in the 3rd or 4th to bookend Schobel on passing downs.
