Bills coach Dick Jauron made it clear at the NFL Combine that he wants a big receiver to start opposite Lee Evans in 2008. Buffalo was rumored to be interested in Oklahoma's Malcolm Kelly (6'4/217), but his decision not to run may cause him to slide. Ernest Wilford (6'4/218), Bryant Johnson (6'3/216), and Jerry Porter (6'2/220) are free agents.

My choice:

1. Malcolm Kelly
2. Bryant Johnson
3. Jerry Porter
4. Ernest Wilford

I think they need 2, not just 1.

Then I'd sign Wilford and draft Kelly. Otherwise it could get too expensive for 1 position.

Not for $20 million over the first three years, not happening and shouldn't.

That'd be great but again I think Johnson will be more expensive than Wilford.

Adarius Bowman, Drew Carter and take a punt on Mike Williams

Whats with the :ill: ?

Wilford, Johnson and Hackett sound fab .... except all will be expensive and none have played to a No2 level even when given considerable opprtunity. Carter has however improved his production every season > surely a player on the up is a good idea.

And if Mike Williams can be motivated, he'll be better than all 4 of them

Both Sweed and Kelly seem to be slow or scared to prove how quick they are and Bowman will be available lower in the draft ... maybe in R3

That means the first 2 picks can be spent on the defence.

Not much point in spending millions on WRs if our defence cannot get the opponents off the field

Hackett has put up pretty good numbers over the past two years when healthy.

Last year he had 32 catches for 384 yards and 3 TDs in just six games. That pro-rates to 85 catches, 1024 yards and 8 TDs over a full season.

In 2006 he had 45 catches for 610 yards and 4 TDs as a No. 3.

He's 6-2 and will be 27 going into the season. He's had trouble staying healthy, but I think he's worth the risk.

it's really strange this year. The Bills seem to be showing all of thier cards...

Maybe they finally got serious about winning after 40+ years of mediocrity.

sign bryant johnson and draft manningham or doucet.

Manningham measured in at only 5'11

That AND he did little to establish himself as an elite WR prospect during the season, why is everyone so high on him?

Disagree, my top choice is 1)Jerry Porter + Adarius Bowman.
As to me Porter is a definite upgrade where all the other free agents not named Moss or Berrian are a question mark. Also in selecting Bowman we can focus our first round pick on another position to fill.

Agree with the Jokeman

Not sure what the buzz is on Hardy apart from height and the fact he's slow. He also has 'character concerns' accused of slapping his woman and kid around. Hell we can pick up Mike Williams WR, and put him on a diet for that and all he does is struggle to control his weight.

There's not a lot of difference in the top 6-8 WRs in terms of quality and if we can get Bowman in the 2nd, the 1st round can focus on a DT especially if one of the current second tier guys like Sims or Balmer do well at the combine and in interview. I've already seen a Mock with Balmer listed as high as 12th.

Signing Porter, and picking up Williams, will give us an option of letting Bowman develop and also seeing if we can get Williams back on track. If we can then we have an outstanding receiving corps.

If you're going to spend the money that it's going to cost to sign B.Johnson or Wilford, you might as well try to sign Donte Stallworth, who has been a legit # 2 WR and might find the prospect of playing with L.Evans and R.Parrish interesting.

If you can't sign Stallworth and have to settle for one of the other WRs, I like Hackett, despite his injury history, and then Wilford as options.

If the Bills do that, they don't have to use their # 1 pick on a WR. They would have plenty of options at # 11, including trading down for an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. Later in the 1st Round they can take their pick of a DT (Balmer), CB (best available, take your pick--DRC?), OLB (Highsmith/Adibi), TE (take your pick) or DE (Harvey?) and take a WR in Round 2 or 3 where they can still get a good player that they can give a year or so to develop into a real star.
