Marc-Andre Gragnani was recalled from the Rochester Americans tonight by the Buffalo Sabres, who were without several ailing players today at practice.

Gragnani will likely be used on left wing on Saturday night against the New York Rangers in place of Michael Ryan, who is out indefinitely with a strained groin. It will be Gragnani’s NHL debut.

The rookie broke into the Amerks lineup as a defenseman, his position in junior, but he has found a home on the wing since moved to a forward line on a fairly permanent basis since January.

Thomas Vanek, Paul Gaustad and Derek Roy also missed practice in Buffalo today.
Gragnani was the Amerks hottest scorer with 3 goals, 6 assists and 9 points during an eight-game point streak.

6-2 195? That's kind of a beanpole for D. He's young so I'm sure he'll beef up, but don't expect much yet.

btw this means 1 of two things: we're trading away a defenseman, or Paesch has to keep playing forward because of all the injuries.

Did you not read the part where he started on D but was moved up to wing where he is permanantly playing?
