View Full Version : Didn't see this coming, Huff on trading block...

Two league sources tell the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald that it's "no secret" Raiders S Michael Huff is on the trade block. Huff is going to be hard to trade with that $43 million rookie deal he signed in 2006. It's very surprising that the Raiders would be looking to unload Huff with no viable alternative behind him. Oakland needs a hitter at strong safety so Huff can move to center field and capitalize on his strengths.Anytime I think our franchise is in the pits all I have to do is look at the Raiders and it makes me feel 100x better.

It would be nice but we have much greater needs, imo.

Move Whitner to CB and put Huff and Simpson back there, two ball hawks

Did you seriously just call Simpson a ball hawk?

Has been his entire career, got burned plenty of time his rookie year trying to jump routes.

Maybe in college but he's been anything but in the pro's.

When I hear the words "ball" and "hawk" I think Reed, Wilson, Polamalu, and Sean Taylor. Ball hawks are game changers, Simpson doesn't look like he has or will fit that mold.

Frankly, I thought Wilson (a rookie Safety) played better than Simpson did at any point thus far.

Maybe Oakland shouldn't have 'reached' for him to begin with.

Whitner isn't on the block to be replaced already.

Oakland didnt reach for him, he was take 7th overall right in front of us. He was a top 10 prospect, the guy was a beast in college. No way did they reach.

Huff had 87 tackles, 1 INT, 1 FF, 1 sack, and 11 PD this past season

I agree with that. He isnt the tackler that Simpson is but he has been playing safety for what 3 weeks.

If he is indeed on the block I could see Dallas pushing for him. I think Jerry finally realizes that Roy Williams is easily one of the worst Safeties in the league and I don't think he feels Hamlin is the answer either.

How much longer is Williams under contract, didn't they just franchise Hamlin? How would this work? Unless Huff's contract is tweaked.

Huff is a good player, but his contract is problematic. Teams will like the player, not the contract.

Williams is signed through 2010 but the idea of cutting him is very possible if the right person pops up to replace him. Every single game that Dallas loses you can go back and watch and you'll see Roy Williams getting burnt. He used to try to make up for it with these big hits of his but he doesn't even do that anymore. If you're ranking the SS in the league he ranks at about 26 and that might be giving him too much credit. At one time Williams' jersey was the best selling on the roster and I think that saved his job (Jerry loves making money) but now he's not even top five and the fans actually boo him at the games.

Hamlin got the tag but so what? He wasn't signed long-term because he sucks, he's another one of those all hits no cover guys. He's not as bad in coverage as Williams but he's still just horrible. They'll likely draft his replacement this year.

To some teams contracts aren't an issue.
