View Full Version : Here's our backup QB after we trade JP

Perfect. Veteran QB not too expensive good enough to backup but not for a controversy. Bring him in!

It hasn't happened yet, but sources indicate it would take a major upset for the Bears not to cut Brian Griese before he is due a $300,000 roster bonus next week. This is the thanks Griese will get for biding his time during 2006, providing a serviceable effort in six starts in '07 and never going off publicly after losing his job to a phantom injury. Griese was never expected to be a guy to get the Bears through more than four or five games at a time. He played that role well. It would still be smart to keep him for 2008, thought that seems unlikely now with the Bears looking to draft a quarterback to hold a clipboard.

I've considered him. Not a bad backup at all. Plus he's played in cold weather for much of his career.

He would be a nice pickup to backup TE.

Of all the names that have been thrown into the hat, this one seems to make the most sense. He'll accept a back-up role, but he's the type of guy that will always be ready to go and will have no problem with starting half a dozen games if Edwards proves to be a bit fragile.

But that means we need to get a trade deal with done with JP pronto.

That's unanimous.

Get right on that, Dick.

If we became available i would defintly like him over my prevous option of Trent Green, Greise would be more servicaeble, and be able to tutor TE

I would feel comfortable having Griese as the backup.

I've always liked him. He would make a helluva backup to Trent. Could win us a game or two if TE were to go down.

I would love to see him here as the backup.

An option I wouldn't mind starting if Trent falls flat on his face or gets hurt.

I like it! Sign him up!

This is what I'm talking about. A solid veteran whose play-style is similar to TE's. Just the sort of guy I'd like to see us bring in. He's a better back-up for us than JP, and we get value out of JP instead of nothing when he inevitably walks next year.

Over/Under 5 weeks before the bench Trent/start Griese conversations start happening.

exactly. i dont want anyone thats going to start any sort of contreversy.

TE is the QB of this team. no one else. ive lived through far too many QB contreversy's in my short life to date and god help me if i have to live through another next season.

There'd be a QB controversy if his back-up was Tory Woodbury. That's how Bills fans work: the guy on the bench is always better than the guy on the field...

You're copin' a 'tude, I was giving my opinion, which was agreed by others.
I think Edwards is a fine backup, but bring someone in with experience,
and I think he'd beat him out for starter. No hate involved

I don't know...He's got fish-stank in his genes.

Id pass on this guy. Ive seen him in action with the Bears and he is terrible. I would rather keep JP than get this bum. Todd Collins on the other hand would be a much better choice.

Speaking of fish stank, I wouldn't mind bringing in Trent Green for a lookie as Edwards' backup. The two Trents thing is weird though.
