Im ticked at the Bills because of the Sabres

    Seems silly, but im pissed.

Today, the Sabres traded one of their best young players for a vitrual no namer and future pick because they wouldnt pay him what hes worth on the open market.

    SOUND FAMILIAR????

Well it may get even more familiar if Ralph croaks and Golisano buys the Bills.

If your not committed to doing what it takes to put a winning team on the field, your not committed to winning.

i kinda agree, the only thing is i know 51 was the man but paying a defensmen 6-7 million a year would have completely shot our chances at signing afinoganov and we do have so many young players that are great, i just hope that we have enough defense without him, not alot of great 2way defensmen in the NHL. and remember most of our team is home grown so at least our sabres have an eye for talent it is still yet to be seen if we can do it without levy, we failed misserably before him.

      Golisano can't afford the Bills.

6 or 7 mil for campbell is horrendous and he is not worth it.

Err, there is such a thing called the cap .. it exists in Hockey too

With the number of RFAs coming up including Miller, the wealth has to be spread. Now the front office there has done a bad job and made several mistakes but they seem to be learning.

Rather than allow a Drury/Briere situation occur, they have got some value .. you can compare this to the Clements situation .. we let him play out his contract rather than give him a big excessive contract but got nothing in return.

The defensive pipeline at Rochester with Sekera, Funk, Weber, Brennan, Persson, and Gragnani, provides cover. Bernier is a 6ft3, 22year old, R1 power forward who could be the guy we've tried to find before. The R1 pick could be add to LW and C depth the Sabres lack.

Whilst not ideal, if the likes of Evans and Crowell, say "I want a silly contract or I will leave", then we need to look at the max return we can get whether it be a veteran or a high draft pick. No-one is irreplaceable.

If a player wants to sign he will and will not quible about $5.5m for 3 years or for 5 years .. after all, that contract can still get extended.

No player is bigger than the team. In each sport, you look at the balance, look at the dynamics, look at the cap. There is little point in having 3-4 elite stars if everyone else are journeymen who cannot held the stars win.

Re: Im ticked at the Bills because of the Sabres

Golisano would never own the Bills. He wouldn't be able to. At best, he would be a major player in an ownership GROUP; perhaps one spearheaded by Jim Kelly.

It really hurts me to even talk about this, but no ownership group that is focused and desiring to remain in Buffalo is going to outbid Rogers or some other big shot looking to move the team elsewhere. Realistically, the only way this team stays is if Wilson sells before his croaking; which we all know won't even happen.. Hell, the media can't even get Wilson to say PUBLICLY that it's his chief desire to have the team remain here after he croaks.

Onto the Sabres. Blame Quinn. He's the real dickhead running the team into the ground. To offer Campbell a three-year deal is a joke, when he's a back-to-back all star and only 28 years old. It's called intentionally low balling someone to try and save a little face.

The Sabres are a living example of what a small economy PLUS poor management from the top can do. For the past few years they've been among the best in the league- talent wise. During that span they let Briere, Drury, Greer, Dumont and McKee walk away for NOTHING.. They low-ball our best (or maybe 2nd best, debatable) defensemen with an absurd contract "term" offer and trade him for a big underachiever in San Jose and a first round pick.

By this time next year, the Sabres will be LUCKY to not be a bottom feeder.

              horse.. ****

Drury and Briere (don't even get me started especially about Drury) not to mention Greer, McKee and Dupont was allowed to happen so this DIDN'T.

We let them go out and get overpaid elsewhere, so the decision was to keep the YOUNGER CORE of this team in tact for several years to come. Less than one year later, we dump off our all star defensemen because he had the gall to not accept a low, three-year contract offer.

Way to keep the team intact.. It's called having a scumbag, egotistical team president in place.

Get used to it. With the Bills, it will be the same.. It's the Buffalo way.. Sure we may hold on to a Lynch or Edwards a year past their contract if we tag them, but ultimately they will RUN when allowed to greener pastures.. Pretty much any sports town in America is greener than Buffalo right now.

I dont know, Pat. We made a run at the Cup two years in a row and failed.

At least the Sabres have more than one winning record in the past decade. Don't see how you can compare the two.

But as for the small market thing, get used to it. It's Buffalo.

Err, the Sabres couldhave afforded it and been under the cap, length of the contract was the main sticking point.

Unfortunately, you seem to head farther and farther down the road of wanting boatloads of backups or "journeyman" with your posts.

Theres a great reason that the Sabres are barerly in playoff contention vs. last year... they lost Drury, Briere, and Zubris.

Theres a reason we havent made the playoffs in a long time, it has to due to lack of overall talent.

Sorry, but I cant disagree stronger, you need stars on your team to lead, play, and raise the level of talent.

Your forgetting two main parties who want the Bills right where they are:

The state, and the NFL. Neither will be willing to let them move without a huge fight.

No, they will get sold and stay here, I just hope the new owner realizes that if you dont keep up with the league, your going to be at the bottom.
