For the past few days here all ive heard on radio/papers is that the Saints are pushing hard for Samuel.
The theory being that they are content with the offense, and that LB/CB have been thier weakspots for years. By signing Samuel and being able to draft DL/LB in round one of the draft they will be amongst the tops in the NFC.
The rumor is the Saints have a package ready thats higher then what Clements got but lower then what Samuel is asking. Somewhere in the middle there.
SAMUEL SAID TO BE A "DONE DEAL" IN MIAMI
There's increasing chatter in league circles that the Saints have worked out a deal with cornerback Asante Samuel.
Yeah, it's tampering. But no one seems to care about that.
Samuel supposedly is looking for a contract with an average value in excess of $10 million per year.
there is also a quote from rotoworld:
The Saints are "currently the leader" to sign free agent Asante Samuel, according to FOXSports.com's John Czarnecki.
Nice to see they've realized their Jason David mistake. Samuel's asking price reportedly went up recently because DeAngelo Hall is asking for $10 million a season. Czarnecki says the Giants would trade their first-rounder for Hall, but wouldn't go that high on a contract.
