View Full Version : An out of the box idea

Josh Barrett is a huge safety who played for Arizona State. He's 6'3" and weighs over 230 lbs. He ran a 4.35 at the combine. Suppose Buffalo drafted him in the fourth round and converted him to a WOLB. Brian Urlacher played some safety at New Mexico. 6'3" and 230 lbs is plenty big for a Tampa 2 linebacker, and if the guy is 6'3" odds are he can pack on another 10 lbs and lose little or no speed. If a conversion to linebacker doesn't work, perhaps he could start at strong safety and move Whitner to CB as some suggest. This might be the kind of freakish size/speed/skill combination that could really make Buffalo's defense click. Consensus Draft Services says, "Josh combines great size, athleticism, and smarts." He was a graduate student at Arizona State. CDS says his weakness is, "he still occasionally gets beat in coverage," and "does not have the best hands." As a WOLB those liabilities would be minor at most.

Gr8 and I have already discussed this including talking about this guy in general. Right there with you Tiger, love the idea!

Straight from the combine website.

Weighed in at 225...

They rounded the numbers up a bit: he's actually 6'1 3/4 and 223lbs.
And only 17reps (a tad weaker that average, and a tad weaker that the average runningback).

Still it'd be a nice project if he was still there late in day2.

With Buffalo signing Kawika Mitchell, this probably doesn't happen. If Buffalo drafts a linebacker, it's going to be in the last round.
