To extend his deal?
With the insane money being given to Berrian and others, what will Evans want? 8 million per?
(The story is Berrian will get 5 million per)

The big issue is the up front money...and he's going to want double-digits.
Sign a FA, draft one early, and if he gets ridiculous with his expectations let him join JP wherever he ends up.

I'd be pissed if he didn't have a new contract by Draft weekend.

He might not even be willing to negotiate until the FA season is totally over.

I wouldn't expect that to happen.

well if Andre davis can get $8 million guaranteed, Evans should easily get double that

whatever.
Wait till Hackett, Johnston, and Wilford all get in the 7-8 million per year range then you wont be saying whatever.

Piss on Evans right now.. He has no leverage he did nothing last season.
Let him have a good year in 08 then we'll revisit him next winter.. He aint holding out he doesn't deserve to

If the Bills wait, he might not work on a deal until FA starts....

isnt he signed through 2009?

Nobody.
Im just saying the last thing we need to worry about right now is extending a guy who did nothing last year. To my knowledge, he still has 2 years left on his deal, no?
We shouldn't even be thinking about extending him right now.

He can opt out of the last year.
So if they extend him now, it is too early. If they wait, they are not being pro-active enough.
Lose/lose situation.

I didnt know he could opt out last year.. My statement was based on him being signed through 2009.
I would still put him frther down my priority list.. Based on last year, I would be nervous to give him that much money.

Weren't you complaining about the Bills drafting a WR 1st because that would mean they are setting up to let Evans walk?

If we sign a bigtime WR in FA, yes. However, I was also under the impression he was under contract THROUGH 2009.
And I also think a WR like Evans is a lot easier to replace then a LB of Briggs' calibur, should we be able to ink him.

If I remember correctly Lee can void 2009. Which most likely he will do.

That, I was unaware of when I made my statement.
Having said that, I would STILL address this defense first anyway. I'd hate to lose Evans, but a WR is much easier to replace then a great DT or LB.
