that could simply mean, we're definitely getting Stroud ? Trading up for Dorsey?

historypete
02-29-2008, 04:33 PM
If that is true, that would be great. I think we overpaid highly for what we got out of him. That would also be a great sign that the Stroud deal is close to going through because we wouldn't get rid of him without having a replacement in hand.

They would not cut Tripplet unless they had his replacement. For the money Triplett has been a disappointment.

Wooowww...gotta admit, for as many seasons we've kept bums on this team, this year it really seems like we're getting rid of the dead weight.

Not going to get excited yet, because right now we only did half of the equasion. Now who are we replacing him with? We're not going to have a rookie and a 2nd year player at DT and expect a whole hell of alot.

Come on baby, get er done.

I hope not DORSEY

Especially not Dorsey or we'll have three tackles

McCargo with a dodgy leg
Dorsey with seriously bad knees
Stroud with a gamey ankle

Christ I hope we've got decent medicare

TigerJ
02-29-2008, 04:37 PM
Ooobig. I can't say he doesn't deserve it. He has certainly underwhelmed me in his time with Buffalo. The question is what do you replace him with? I would guess the Bills have some confidence they are going to land Stroud. They have tendered Jefferson. I suspect they will keep McCargo at 3 technique and they will plan on drafting someone to join McCargo as a 3 tech rotation guy. Maybe Dre Moore.

I'm surprised that they cut Tripplett over Jason Jefferson...how much cap space does cutting Tripplett save us?

Dre Moore played the NT/1-tackle at Maryland.

As long as we don't give up a Day1 pick we should be able to get him in R2

02-29-2008, 04:40 PM
wow, as much as Tripplett has under achieved since coming here, we are pretty thin depth wise on the DL. Cutting Tripplett and Hargrove being suspended for a year, we better be signing and drafting some DL and DTs.

Less than two years after signing defensive tackle Larry Tripplett to a five-year deal, the Bills parted ways with the veteran Friday. Tripplett never provided quite the impact Buffalo had hoped for. More to follow.

I can't believe it took 17 posts for someone to point this out.

our only DT's right now are Jefferson (uggh), McCargo, and Williams- something will happen here, probably very soon.

Paul Hamilton just reported on WGR that the Bills will not confirm nor deny Stroud visiting them today.

Everyone is pretty hush hush about it.

The Bills are also expecting a visit from Jacksonville DT Marcus Stroud later today. He's been given permission to seek a trade by the Jaguars. The Bills would not confirm or deny that Stroud is in Orchard Park.

Hmm...so he hasnt even arrived yet???

This makes perfect sense and I like it... Tripplett didnt provide any pass rush... Stroud should come in and play the 3 technique and McCargo should start at the nose. I really think the Bills are setting themselves up to take Derrick Harvey with the 11th pick. He weighed in at 291 and is a great pass rusher with speed. Reminds me of Justin Tuck. He can play outside at LDE if Kelsay isnt cutting it and on passing downs he can move inside next to Stroud.

i dont think you are thinking draft right now.. there is no guarentee that you get the guy you want in the draft. i think that they should have kept triplett till after the draft at least. he is quality depth.

Triplett release saves only aboot $500,000

It may only save $500,000 in cap (or cash-to-the-cap) money, but, if it is true that Tripplett was due to get a $ 1 Mil. bonus soon, that's a million cash that they won't have to pay out and can use as signing bonus money that can be paid out as part of a contract with Stroud or with one of the other FAs that they may want to sign.

This may be a move that is more about cash-flow than cap money.

What it indicates to me is that they are looking at making multiple moves--not just bringing in Stroud and giving him a new contract--in the very near future: moves that will require them to pay lay out "up-front" money as in signing bonuses.

That would also explain why they cut so many players right before the start of free agency: they were anticipating that the moves that they wanted to make in free agency would cause a cash-flow problem in the short-term as they handed out signing bonuses. By getting those players off the payroll in the short-term, the team could get the new players signed. Then, later, once their cash-flow has stabilized or new cash has come in, they can either re-sign or replace the players that they cut to flesh out their roster before the OTAs (or training camp) begins. Make sense?

The Bills have always said that their problem in free agency wasn't one of not having the money to pay players, but a cash-flow problem where they did not have enough "up-front" cash on hand to pay out the kind of bonuses that some of the other teams could pay out far more easily. And, it's the signing bonus money that is critical in signing players because it is the only money that is really guaranteed in the contracts--which is why the players are always looking for big bonus money.

Getting Harvey would be F'in amazing!!! Mayben part of the Stroud deal involves one of our overpaid/underachieving DE's? (Jax is in short supply of them).
