Former Bill; greatest FA bust in history?

    About those free-agent busts
    February 29, 2008 3:15 PM

    Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando
Pro Football Weekly's list of all-time free-agent busts ran five deep: Sean Gilbert, Elvis Grbac, Alvin Harper, Adam Archuleta and David Boston. I can think of one that might trump them all: Nate Odomes. Buffalo fans remember him as a shut-down corner who missed only one game from 1987 to 1993. Seattle fans remember him as the $8.4 million free agent (big money back then) who blew out a knee playing basketball and never played a down for the Seahawks. There have been other free-agent busts, but it can't get worse than shelling out big bucks for a guy who never plays a snap for you.

Technically, I suppose this could be true.. LOL

There were a number of guys the Bills dumped just before they crapped out with other teams ...

Unfortunately, beer is clouding my mind and I can't think of them all, but there was Cornelius Bennett and Reuben Brown ...

No, biggest FA flop in my mind is...

The deal Cleveland gave to Rison. Rison didn't produce much as a Brown, said in a press conference he was glad to be leaving to Baltimore and then got released in the offseason so he never played in Baltimore.

I wonder if Nate still has that money.

Billy Joe was a trade and he probably didn't make as much as Nate Odomes got from Seattle.

Haha. Scott Mitchell. He was ok for Miami when Marino tore his achilles, but couldn't duplicate it in Detroit.

Speaking about the Bills, Quinn Early never really worked out according to intention. He parlayed an 80 catch, 1000 yard season w/New Orleans into fairly pedestrian #'s with the Bills for a couple of seasons. That was disappointing; many expected the Bills in the Super Bowl in 1996 because we were coming off a division-winning season and also added Chris Spielman. Spielman, one could argue, did not work, either, at least for very long. But those were very extenuating circumstances... it's easier to admire him than fault him for that...

What I remember from the 1996 season was that the Bills' offense was looking impressive in the preseason up until the last game against Baltimore and Ted Marchibroda, who was the coach of the Ravens, figured out that if you blitzed up the middle the Bills couldn't stop it and then that became the book on the Bills for the rest of the year.

Also wasn't that the year of "Just give it to 'em" in New England?

When Andre Rison went to Cleveland, that was a pretty bad one too. He sucked balls for the Browns.
