The upside of the Toronto deal

Could we be seeing the fruits of the Toronto deal in these FA signings? The Bills will gross $112M CDN from the 8 Toronto games. What the split is between Rogers and Wilson we don't know, but figure if it's 50/50 that's an extra $11.2M the Bills have to spend each year.

No. Just trying to make the point that it gives us more $$$ to work with.

Nice start, but in reality it won't even pay up front money for one decent FA. We need to do more, and get them to start investing in the luxury suites at the Ralph.

Not to mention re-doing the CBA and re-structuring revenue sharing to a closer model of it's original conception and intent.

Re: The upside of the Toronto deal

What I've been saying for awhile now is that, if the Rogers group paid Ralph even half of what they agreed to for the game this season, it would give Wilson more money in terms of cash on hand that he could use as "up-front" bonus money in any deals that the team may make in free agency.

The reason that J.Jones and B.Kraft can do more with $ 10 million in free agency than a team like Buffalo or Cincy can do with $ 30 million is that Jones and Kraft can afford to spend more money "up-front" in bonuses. And, since NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, it is the bonus money that most NFL players and their agents are most interested in.

If Ralph is getting money now from Rogers for the game that will be held in Toronto later in the year, he doesn't have to wait until then for that money--it is money in his pocket now that he can afford to then lay out as bonus money (for example to re-structure Stroud's contract and make him happy to come to Buffalo).

This is one way that the Toronto deal can help the Bills be more competitive and perhaps even make keeping them in Buffalo while Ralph is alive financially viable.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.
