    The Other Johnson

    Here is a small paragraph from SI which was encouraging.

    Buffalo's acquisitions of Marcus Stroud and Kawika Mitchell garnered headlines, but the unheralded signing of defensive tackle Spencer Johnson may be the biggest reason the Bills' defense dramatically improves next season. Johnson -- signed away from the Vikings for five years and $17 million -- gives the Bills a quick interior tackle with the explosiveness to be a disruptive player at the "one" or "three" technique.

    Johnson excels as a run defender but has developed better-than-average pass rush skills as an interior player. With Stroud occupying double teams on the other side, Johnson's versatile set of skills should allow the Bills to control the middle of the line, while freeing linebackers Mitchell and Paul Posluszny to shoot gaps against the run. The Bills' defense ranked 31st in yards allowed last season, but that should change with Johnson and Stroud controlling the middle.

    What's nice about having great run stoppers is this will help the DE's with the pass rush...Much harder to get a sack when the opposition has 3rd and 2 instead of 3rd and 8. I think you will see Kelsey's and Schoebel's sacks go up if Stroud and company can stay healthy.

      Indeed... amazing how a position of weakness can so quickly become a position of strength. Jonson and McCargo should be extremely fresh in the 4th quarter with the rotation we have in place.

          i really liked this pick up and to do it the way the bills did, under the radar u know they really thought highly of him, just think if hargrove was coming back, i think Denney would be lookin for a job and still might be if we take a DE early or sign another one, the highlights i seen of Spencer looks like he is a high motor guy too and with his size and speed mite be a huge asset against the run

                    Funny how that works.....Good players around you can make or break your season....funny how nobody called for shobells head this year....

                      Our DE's can now drop back in coverage while our rotational DT"s still have the ability to get to the qb. Nice.

                      Where are those that blasted MArv for not believing in the Darwin theory ?

                          I think Stroud and McCargo will always be on the field for 1st down and all 2nd and 6 or less... as well as 3rd and shorts. For 2nd and long as well as 3rd and long Spencer will come in with Stroud.

                          In obvious passing situations I would like to see Kelsay-Johnson-Harvey(1st pick) - Schobel
