Bills signings give Bledsoe's step a bounce

“Josh made some big plays for us as a rookie, and he’s been working really hard this off-season,” Bledsoe said. “He doesn’t have that blazing, stretch-the-field speed that Peerless has, but he’s a dependable guy who’s tough to bring down after he catches it. We are looking for big things out of him, and he’ll be helped by (free agent acquisition) Bobby Shaw.”

Bledsoe also has great expectations for running back Travis Henry, who will benefit from running behind newly reacquired blocking back Sam Gash and a young offensive line that improved significantly last season.

The greatest help, though, will come from the defense, which ranked near the bottom of the NFL in points allowed. The acquisition of free agents Takeo Spikes (linebacker) and Sam Adams (defensive tackle) will make the Bills tougher to move the ball against, and that will take pressure off Bledsoe and the offense.

“Last year, we had to rely so heavily on the big play because we felt we had to score a lot of points in order to win,” he said. “I don’t think that’s going to be the case this season, because we’ve picked up some real blue-chippers on defense. As a result, I think our style of play offensively is going to change a little bit.
