2:56 PT: Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins and LB Junior Seau’s agent, Marvin Demoff, are close to an agreement on a restructured contract for Seau, who is still under contract with the San Diego Chargers. The parameters of the deal are contingent on the Dolphins working out a trade with the Chargers before 4 p.m. ET on Monday, which is when Seau is due a $2.7 million bonus from the Chargers. The two sides have had preliminary discussions about a trade already.

Seau trade faces Monday deadline

It may only be a few days before San Diego linebacker Junior Seau is a member of the Dolphins.

The Dolphins and agent Marvin Demoff are near agreement on a restructured contract for Seau, an NFL source confirmed Thursday. Those parameters are contingent upon San Diego trading Seau to the Dolphins by 4 p.m. Monday, which is when he is slated to collect a $2.7 million bonus from the Chargers.

The Dolphins and Chargers have held preliminary trade talks, but negotiations should heat up now that a restructured contract is close to getting finalized. The Dolphins hope Seau can be obtained for a low-round draft choice because the Chargers are likely to want to avoid having to pay $2.7 million to a player who isn't expected on the team's 2003 roster....
