Think of how much better our team would be if we didn't make the huge blunder of signing Peerless Price as our #2 WR. With all the holes our teams had at the time, I think we couldve done a little better than freaking Peerless Price. Even last year the position was again overlooked, not even a guy drafted in later rounds. Our only WRs came as UDFA's and they had no impact whatsoever.
Not only do we have 1 hole to fill as far as WR's go, but we may have 2 if we dont get Evans to resign. And honestly, if you were Evans and gone through all the crap with the QB's, the horrid production, not getting the right talent to go alongside him, you'd be pissed and want to leave too knowing that not only would you get better money elsewhere, but you'd have a much better opportunity to maximize your potential; something that Evans never had a chance to do while in Buffalo.
The WR position was addressed poorly and totally ignored during the two years Marv was here...in fact, the very first year Marv was here, almost nothing was addressed. What did we get out of his first year?
Melvin Fowler, C - He's the weakest link of our offensive line and one of the many reasons we have no success running up the middle.
Donte Whitner, S - He's good, not great, and not worth 8th overall pick.
Ko Simpson, S - Big questionmark, may be good, but most likely will be just average.
John McCargo, DT - Traded up for him, probably was a reach, but is finally coming on and made some nice plays at the end of the season. Probably couldve got him without trading up.
Kyle Williams, DT - Decent backup.
Peerless Price, WR - Overpaid, at best #4 WR made to be our #2 WR. Horrid.
Ashton Youboty, CB - Was supposed to become the answer to our CB situation, ended up being just short of a bust. Has shown nothing thus far and doesn't inspire confidence in the coaches never starting a game and being used in only a few games at the end of last season.
Tripplett, DT - Cut, overpaid backup. Never lived up to expectations that were naively set by the FO.
It's very hard to not only whiff on free agency but whiff again on the draft. Most of the holes we are filling now, still, are the positions we tried to fill the very first year Marv was here.
