Would've been nice to go into this year with Donte, Ko, George, and McCree filling in the safety spots, but as long as Simpson is healthy it really isn't a concern if we don't snag another in FA.

TE is shot, and the only position we have left to have a chance of possibly upgrading is WR. They need to get Johnson in here or else we're looking for multiple starters in the draft for the third year in a row.

The Chargers actually moved up in the 2nd round last year to draft S Eric Weddle, because they wanted a replacement for the limited McCree.

Denver is giving him a chance to start at SS, while he would only backup Whitner here. Way too slow to play FS.

            Not concerned.

Personally I want us to resign Bryan Scott who will provide depth behind Whitner, moved Wendling to FS along with Simpson and George Wilson and let them fight it out.

whitner, Simpson, Wendling, Wilson, Bryan Scott (is he signed?)... That's a solid unit. Add some camp fodder and we're good.

Re-signing Scott would be nice. Wendling is still too much of an unknown to even know if he's viable depth.

I could live with Whitner, Simpson, Wilson, Scott, and Wendling, as long as Ko is healthy.

With Aiken, Wire, and possibly Haggan leaving, Wendling has become without question the best special teamer coverage guy on this team. He hasn't played safety at all, except for last preseason. It was Wilson's first year at safety, he'll get better. Scott came in and played well in backup duties last year.

If Ko is back and healthy, I'd like him to start. I really thought he showed alot of potential in 2006 and played much better than a rookie fourth round pick could have been expected to.

So the question is: Did we lose him due to Bryant Johnson screwing around with us?

you guys shouldn't be crying about losing out on mccree, there's a reason we cut him, and it's not just weddle

mccree had some major screwups at times, yes he can deliver a nice hit, but at what cost?

Don't for get Justin Jenkins on STs--he basically replaced Aiken at one "gunner" spot with Wendling at the other and has shown more as a WR as well. I think the Bills expect him to show improvement in both areas in his second season with the team.

I really wasn't sure why the Bills went after McCree other than the fact that he has shown a nice knack for generating turnovers and his prior association with Fewell in Jax--unless they have some concern about the progress of Simpson's recovery.

Personally, I like Bryan Scott and think that picking him up last year was a good move, even though he has his limitations as a player. I can't say that McCree would have offered that much more than Scott and would not mind seeing the Bills re-sign Scott if they feel they need to bring in another safety.

Frankly, I think that, as much as Wendling may have had to learn about playing SS in the NFL last season, with his athletic gifts the Bills should be looking for him to take a big step up at the position this offseason.

Yes, experience is nice, but remember how excited we all were by Wendling's athleticism and the fact that the Bills were able to get him last season? Well, the Bills didn't just draft him to play special teams: they also expected him to develop into a guy who could eventually help on defense as well.

We knew that the guy was an athletic freak who would take some time to develop as a defensive player, but how is a guy supposed to develop beyond a certain point and get experience if you don't put him on the field and see what he can do? If/when he steps up and is ready to play some defense as well as special teams, you've got a guy who is a freakish athlete playing for you. Isn't that what you want and the reason that the Bills took a chance on the guy in the first place?

And, if the Bills don't think that he's going to be ready to play yet, let them sign a guy cheap to serve as a back-up until he is--after all, unless there is a problem with Simpson's recovery, we're not even talking about filling a position in the starting lineup here--we're looking at a back-up safety spot!
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.

Yeah let's blame the Bills FO for a FA wanting to play somewhere else. How do any of us know the exact reason for him to chose Denver over Buffalo?

Just because the Bills didn't sign a player doesn't mean they sat around with two thumbs up their ass and became a douche.

It's not like Buffalo is the center of the football universe.
