If we ever sign B Johnson he will start opposite Lee Evans in 2008.
Lee will play his heart out next year to warrant a big money deal.
Then we draft M Kelley who can heal up and learn the offense. Lee
will either command big dollars in which we will either pay or Franchise
or transition him. That will command draft pick(s). If he stinks up the
place it gives us huge leverage to lower his price. Either way we should
be set at WR for 4-5 years.

We should franchise him next year, and trade him for draft picks.....No way is he worth the huge money he's gonna command....

definitely don't just let him walk

Franchise and trade in 2009 is the only option if Lee won't extend at a home town discount

and I really want the Bills to get Kelly or Sweed and/or Hardy over Johnson, but would like to have Johnson if his salary lets him slide inot the #3 spot down the line.

No. Pay the guy now and still draft Kelly. If Johnson signs but flops, we'll still have Evans and Kelly for years to come. If Johnson turns out we'll have a corp of unstoppable three headed monster.

Lee on the field takes the focus away from BJ / any Drafted WR's.

Possibly...but if he commands double teams it could give the #2 or slot or TE a shot at some plays...it happens all the time in the NFL...see w Welker.

Well this is essentially my piont...if one of the three flop we still have 2.....by not signing Lee it might work to our advantage in the end...by signing him cheap...or getting somthing for him...

Evans is a very good, established receiver. We don't know how good Bryant Johson or ANY rookie WR is going to be. We should make every effort - short of breaking the bank - to resign him.

According to Buffalo fans, nobody is worth any type of big deal.

here is a Q:

how many first round highly thought of WRs have been drafted, didn't do so great on their 1st team, but went on to be very good on the next team?

plaxico comes to mind, any others?

most wrs that dissapoint on their first team seem to just not put it all together.

WE HAVEN'T HAD CONSISTENT QB PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee is a very good receiver, he is one of the best deep guys in the game, Bad numbers last year, but worse Qb play.

Sign him to an extension now.

Lee is going to want to break it is my piont ...with the contracts these recievers are getting he wants his. We have leverage as teams will give up a #1 for a guy like Lee who is ready to go from day one. WR usually take a year to develop after being drafted....a dallas or denver or GB could easily give up a #1 for Lee if Wr is a need. Lee will want to play his heart out for a payday. B Johnson did everything asked of him when he had to step in at #2 for the cards. He is a player on the rise...and will be an upgrade over J Reed any day. Add a pass catching TE to this mix and he may do even better. Lee and JP I think are the last of the Donawhore era...and we would be smart to let both play out there contracts. JP knows this offense...might benifit greatly from a fairchild departure a legit # 2 and a real pass catching TE... ....he is cheap and Edwards is injury prone. Who knows JP might be a canadate for Transition player in which we would get a pick if we dont match a contract. Win, win, win imho.

We no longer need deep threats...we are looking for physical pos types ie Jags. to help in the run game and get 1rst downs. One reason we are going from JP to TE...we no longer need JP arm. It is a cold weather model and works well with the right people.

Lee is good no doubt. But this is a chicken egg thing. Would a legit # 2 and TE make a qb more consistant? Some great minds on this board say it doesnt mater...I am one who say it does 100%. We shall see.

Who cares, overpay, we need all the help we can for the future. Its not like were going to spend the money we save from not re-signing Lee on anything big.

It's ok to overpay your own guys a bit. Pay the man, he's easily one of the most dangerous deep threats in the league and our most explosive player. Edwards is going to need someone he can depend on.

I agree....but are we forgetting who our owner is?..he still waits for strawberries to go on sale before he buys them....
