Ex-Jr. Amerk Vanek leads Minnesota over New Hampshire

(April 13, 2003) — BUFFALO — Thomas Vanek launched his North American hockey career in Rochester.
Now the Austrian-born freshman scoring sensation has likely used Buffalo as his launching pad to the NHL.
Vanek made his western New York homecoming with the University of Minnesota unforgettable Saturday night, triggering a four-goal third period with a goal and assist as the Golden Gophers became the first team to win back-to-back NCAA Division I championships in 31 years, defeating New Hampshire 5-1 at HSBC Arena.
