    Changes on Defense...

There is a distinct possibility the starting defensive unit next year will feature this lineup:

    DL: Schobel, McCargo, Stroud, Kelsay
    LB: Mitchell, Posluszny, Crowell
    DB: James, Simpson, Whitner, McGee

That would be 6 new starters than the defensive unit that played most of last year. (counting Simpson and Poz, who played in 1 and 2.25 games last season) I think that can only bode well for a defense that finished near the very bottom of the league.

However, I expect Jabari Greer and George Wilson to make strong starting bids in camp. Actually I consider Greer the favorite to win the second cornerback job at this point in time. Spencer Johnson could also make a starting bid in a competition against McCargo. That will be an interesting battle to watch in tc.

Though the lack of offensive additions concern me, (even though our first round pick I would bet is a wide reciever) I think we've made positive additions to a defense that played hard but was undermanned last year.

1 large step forward in my opinion.

It will be nice to hopefully have Posluszny for a whole season.

Spencer Johnson is hopefully McCargo's motivation to take it to the next level. The competition should make them both (and the rotation) better.

I would add Poz in there... for a C2 to work your MLB has to be a key player on D.

I agree to a certain degree. If the guys in front of him can't do what they are supposed to do he'll end up having to support them instead of concentrating on making plays.

Definitely.... I was thinking more of his pass defending duties... Urlacher and Brackett are 2 of the best MLB at dropping deep and making plays in the pass game and Poz will have to do the same if we are going to be a good defense on 3rd down.

I think the Bills will take a hard look at Wendling, too, perhaps at SS, with the possibility of moving Whitner to FS.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Me too, although I absolutely love George, I see Wendling-Whitner being a more realistic possibility than Whitner-Wilson. Whether Wendling-Whitner will win (10 times fast?) over Whitner-Simpson will be interesting.

Poz's ability to make the right calls is going to be a better indicator of what he can add to the defense, not his physical skills.

If he starts from Day 1, don't be surprised if the defense struggles for the first month of the season.

It bothers me that several guys have not shown up. They've been off for almost 3 months, and they'll be off again for long intervals between now and camp.

For the kind of money they make, it seems like they could show up for few and relatively short voluntary sessions that will occur between now and late July.
