    I'm still thinking this

the Sabres wanted Kane last year so bad but they couldn't get him Darcy even says that he went up to Chicago's GM and asked him what were they going to do? wheather they were going to select or trade.

That’s not to say the Sabres didn’t try in the days leading up. General Manager Darcy Regier revealed to The Buffalo News he had contacted the Chicago Blackhawks about trading the No. 1 choice so the Sabres could select South Buffalo native Patrick Kane.

“I talked to them to ask them what they were going to do, whether they were going to select or trade,” Regier said. “They felt they were going to select, so I’ll leave it at that. I’m not going to comment further. It was a good conversation. That’s all.”

Regier has said all along that if he were picking first overall he would take Kane.

“We like him a lot,” Regier said. “We’re not envious where you have to

finish to get him, but we’re envious of anybody who does get him.”
