The two key parties in the first dramatic moment of the new Cincinnati regime are getting criticized by league insiders for their words and deeds.

Running back Corey Dillon, the only veteran under contract who is missing the team's initial voluntary minicamp, has bristled at questions regarding his decision to stay away. And an AFC personnel exec likewise has bristled at Dillon's attitude, especially as the Bengals try to remake the entire franchise.

Per the source, "Dillon is a f--king crybaby and is never satisfied. 'They should have traded his lazy, me-first ass when they had the opportunity."

Dillon attributed his decision to a desire to be with his family. "He's had all offseason to be with his family," said our source. "That's a buch of garbage."

Coach Marvin Lewis also is catching flak in league circles not his nonchalance in response to questions regarding Dillon's whereabouts, explaining that the workouts are "voluntary."

"What kind of quote is that?" said the source. "Do you think [Cowboys coach Bill] Parcells or [Steelers coach Bill] Cowher would say that? They'd either say 'get your ass in here' or they wouldn't say anything at all."

Really, Lewis is the first NFL coach that we can recall who has sided with a player's right to stay away from voluntary drills. If anything, head coaches have been pushing the proverbial envelope over the past few years, making all sorts of statements that violate the CBA's prohibition on transforming these workouts into mandatory exercises.
