    Maddox Not "expected" Until Monday?

In response to Friday's report that starting quarterback Tommy Maddox is staying away from voluntary workouts in Pittsburgh, a league source has told us that, in reality, the Steelers don't "expect" Maddox and the other veterans to begin participating in offseason drills until April 14.

According to the source, the current workouts are attended primarily by younger players (i.e., four years or less in the league), and by guys who live in Pittsburgh, such as backup quarterback Charlie Batch.

Still, our original source for the Maddox story tells us that there's a fairly high level of activity at the practice facility, with players actually running around on the field. Our original source also tells us that the players who are present are indeed asking questions about the decision of Maddox to stay away, especially since Batch is working elbow-to-elbow with the other guys.
