Backup QB David Garrard is surprised and disconcerted by the Jaguars' recent heavy interest in two of the top passers in the April 26-27 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars conducted an individual workout with USC QB Carson Palmer last month and sent top executives to this week's workout of Marshall's Bryon Leftwich. Both are likely to go early in the first round, and the Jaguars have the No.8 overall pick.

"I look at that and wonder why that is," Garrard said of the interest in Palmer and Leftwich.

"If they do [draft a quarterback], that's fine. It would just make me wonder. That would make anybody in my position think."

Garrard, the second-year backup to veteran Mark Brunell, said he hopes to use this weekend's minicamp to convince the Jaguars that he is their long-term answer.

"If I do what I'm capable of all weekend long, then I don't think they'll feel the need to draft a quarterback," Garrard said.

"But if I don't work out here [as a Jaguar], then I'll work out somewhere else."
