Four prime-time games highlight '08 Kickoff Weekend

The NFL announced the 2008 Kickoff Weekend schedule, which features four national games, on Monday.
The New York Giants will host the NFL East rival Washington Redskins in the season opener Sept. 4, continuing the tradition of the Super Bowl champion hosting the Thursday night season opener. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. ET, 90 minutes earlier than usual because of the Republican National Convention.
The Indianapolis Colts will host the Chicago Bears in Sunday night's prime-time game, the first regular-season contest at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Colts plans to play preseason games in the 63,000-seat stadium in August.
ESPN will feature a Monday night doubleheader -- the Green Bay Packers, in their first game without retired quarterback Brett Favre, will host the Minnesota Vikings in the early matchup at 7 p.m. ET, while the Oakland Raiders will host the Denver Broncos in the late contest at 10:15 p.m. ET.
The rest of the 2008 regular-season schedule will be completed and announced in April, the NFL said.

Seriously.... why does Oakland continue to get so many prime time games? They have not had success in a few years and can't even sell out games. What gives?

The Bills better get a Monday Nighter dammit.
Talk about some love for the Pack, they will going nuts at Lambeau and should destroy the Vikings.

It'll be a good game, but it all depends on how well Rodgers plays. He's no guarantee.

                    I can answer that.

Oakland got that game because they're on the West Coast. That game starts at 10 p.m., so both teams have to be West Coast teams. Take a look and you'll see that the pickings on that side of the country are fairly slim.

You have only 6 teams-- the Chargers, 49ers, Raiders, Seahawks, Cardinals and Broncos-- lying on or west of the Rocky Mountains. The Cardinals and 49ers played that game last year and the Chargers and Raiders played in 2006. The Seahawks don't play any of those teams in 2008 but the Broncos do, so they picked a division rivalry for Week 1. Could they have picked Chargers-Broncos instead? Sure, but San Diego already has the international game, so the Raiders seems more fair.
