So? What are the offseason moves?

What do you think will happen during the off-season? Mine are pretty obvious.

    1. Sign new backup to Miller.
    2. Kalinin is allowed to walk.
    3. Miller will not be resigned by the start of next season.
    4. Max will not be traded by the start of next season.

I don't see a lot happening with this team during the offseason.

For all the education and practice each of us undergoes, the achievment of mastery is ultimately the outcome of a personal quest for understanding.

I agree on the need for a better backup goalie and also that Kalinin should find a new home. He should be replaced by a big, physical defenseman.

I love Max - the fastest, most exciting, most skilled non-productive player of all time - and I like Connolly, but we need more toughness and more grit, so I think they should go.

And a minor point - Peters is a waste of a roster spot and should never wear a Sabre sweater again. The guy can't even fight.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

I think the same things will happen. The Sabres will sit on their hands and say this team is close, and just needs to develop.

Miller will ask for $6 million per year and they will tell him no. Then they will wait until near the trade deadline and send him the offer he wanted, he will say no, I want $7 million per year for 7 years. The Sabres will say no and then trade him.

I wonder if Brian Boucher from San Jose is available.

          It will be interesting.

If they do extend Miller, Pominville and get Paille signed, they will not have much money to do much else even if they do trade Max and Kotalik.

Wouldn't Paul Gaustad be more important the Paille?

Plus don't forget about Steve Bernier. Wow! You are right, we won't have any money left.

actually, I didn't realize how good of a season Paille had. Wow! Very impressive. And he's ONLY 24!

              77 games, 19 goals, 16 assists, 35 points, +9

Paille is a RFA and HNiC predicted he could see 2.5 per. He is a 20 goal scorer. Goose is great, but will not get as much $$

                All RFA's:

                Bernier
                MaCarthur
                Gaustad
                Paille

                UFA's:

                Pratt
                Thibault
                Kalinin
                Teppo

At least they got Hecht exteneded

I am not sure which players have arbitration rights.

MacArthur and Bernier do not. (At least I think they don't)

So...........The Sabres spent less mony last year and made the ECF and this year they spent to the cap and missed the playoffs? Sad.

This offseason with 2 first round picks, he can actually get a player via trade in the draft, but with our horrible approach to FA, and our reluctancy to make any big moves, i hope the offseason goes as follows

EXTEND Gaustad, Paille, PVille, Miller, Breneir,

Let Walk Kahlinin, Teppo, Ryan, Peters (cut him),

Look into trading Lydman, Max, Kotalick, even Tallinder,

Look into bringing back Pratt as 7th defensman

Bring in a solid Defensman with a physical preseance maybe 2

and go with the young nucleus

Trading Tallinder would be insane. He is by far the best D-man on the team.

And if they extend those players it will be impossible to bring in one or especially two solid physical defensemen.

Re: So? What are the offseason moves?

I don't usually do this stuff, but **** it, I don't know if any of the guys I listed have been signed or not, just going by a free agent list:

                              1. Ryan, Kalinin and Numminen walk
                              2. Sekera earned his spot next season.
                              3. Try to trade a forward, not quite sure who yet, I don't know if that player is Afinogenov or not, maybe Kotalik.
                              4. You have to sign your RFAs in Bernier, Gaustad, Paille, and MacCarthur.
                              5. With another season of injuries to Tim Connolly you have to look at center. I know the team isn't going to shell out the money, but I would love for them to get a #1-2 center by getting Brian Rolston. He would fit nicely into this system. If not, you have to look second tier then you go with Roy-Hecht-Gaustad-Connolly and pray connolly can last a season. another player that would fit this system would be David Legwand, just not sure what the price tag would be for him.
                              6. You have to replace the offense on defense. Again, they won't spend the money but Mark Streit would be perfect, or John Michael Liles. If you need to look second tier, I might look at Ron Hainsey. Bryan Berard could be someone to look at but he is another injury plagued player.
                              7. You need to get tougher on the blueline and I would love for them to look at Brooks Orpik. If that doesn't work out maybe Mike Commodore, but he didn't look so good during the end of the year.
                              8. Everyone is all about a backup goalie, but I don't care who they get. Miller played so many games because Miller wasn't very good and they lost. The team had to play catch up most of the year.
