I agree that they need a DE but I think they are gun shy now about taking a first round DE that is iffy. They have Erasmus James and Kenechi Udeze both of which have been disappointments. No way they take Merling who is essentially the same player as Udeze. Both are solid run defenders with good but not great pass rush abilities. I think they hold off till the 2nd round and take a pure pass rusher with speed like Groves or Avril if he's there.

could be right, though Udeze is out indefinitely with leukemia, so they might see merling as the best DE option and take him. who knows!
