    Hold Off On Those Mocks

    per PFT
    CHIEFS ADDRESS ALLEN REPORTS

Posted by Mike Florio on April 17, 2008, 3:04 p.m.
The Kansas City Chiefs have issued a statement regarding media reports of a potential trade of defensive end Jared Allen to either the Minnesota Vikings or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“We will confirm that we have been in conversation with a few teams regarding the possibility of acquiring Jared Allen’s contractual rights,” team president and G.M. Carl Peterson said. “Any potential agreement would be contingent on the Chiefs receiving appropriate compensation and Jared’s representative reaching a contract agreement.
“Jared is not an exclusive franchise player. Therefore, based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, he has the right to visit and negotiate with other teams. However, for any trade to be completed, the Chiefs would need to reach an agreement on compensation. At this point, all of these discussions are preliminary.”
Whether the discussion move beyond “preliminary” is something that needs to happen pretty damn soon. We’re assuming that the Chiefs would like to convert Allen’s right into one or more draft picks that can be used nine days from now.

That would probably mean Gholsten or even harvey to KC at 5, which could throw the rest of the Top 10 for a loop.

Because they can't come to terms on a new contract.

The Chiefs really need to dismantle that team and start from scratch. I heard on Sirius today that they were looking for two first round picks for Allen, and they might get it from Minnesota.

Jared allen has had astronomical numbers the past 4 seasons, arguably one of the best DE's in all of football. Certainly been the most consistent averaging almost 11 sacks a year since his rookie season.

The guy had 15.5 sacks in 14 games last year and very likely is commanding a contract better then Freeney's. Rightfully so.

I dont know about 2 first rounders, but they will get a nice payday from him.

If he goes to Minny lookout, with those DT's he may **** around and break the sack record. If he can hang 15.5 with the crap that is the KC DL id shudder to think what he does outside of Pat and Kevin Williams.

I don't know man, these players are getting really, really, greedy. I just saw on the news today that the Cowgirls offered Marion Barber a deal worth 30 million, Barber turned around and asked for a deal in the 40-60 million dollar range. Wtf is going on??! This is crazy money.

Because the CBA is coming to a close soon and the NFL is on schedule for an uncapped year.

Thus teams can offer an ouragous contract and keep a guy without salary cap concerns

Nothing would please Kraft, Snyder and Jones more than to come to an uncapped year. It also will put those rich teams at a huge advantage over all the other teams by paying big time for that one year and then lowering the salary during the cap years but they don't care about playing on a level playing field with the rest of the league.
Really too bad too. Those three are really hurting the overall league. I wish we could get rid of those teams and let those three play in there own league and let them have no cap and pay outrageous contracts and then let the NFL have their cap and have everyone on a level playing field so every team has an equal opportunity to succeed. Maybe Kraft, Snyder and Jones will realize they need the little guys to help make the league an overall success.
One reason I don't like baseball anymore is its the same teams competing every fall and the other teams are just playing out the season every year.

Allen deserves to probably be the higher paid DE in all of football. He's the best DE you've never heard of because of who he plays for.
