Long, Long Day At The Top?
Posted by Tom Curran: Monday, April 21, 2008 10:39 AM

The Dolphins flirtations with Michigan tackle Jake Long over the past few weeks have been well-publicized but this morning, with six days to go before the draft, a league source is indicating that a contract agreement is nearly in place.

Word that Miami initiated talks with Long's agent, Tom Condon, surfaced almost two weeks ago. Condon actually was in South Florida to meet with Dolphins officials. Miami's also made overtures toward Vernon Gholston but little other progress has been mentioned.

Meanwhile, with Jake Long off the board, the St. Louis Rams are a lock to go with defense at No. 2 and, according to the same league source, the camp of Virginia defensive end Chris Long is very confident that's where he'll be headed.

I could live with both of those moves. Miami gets a great OT but it will take some time to put talent around him. St. Louis lands Long and for all intents and purposes he disappears - almost to never really trouble the Bills.

Pick # 1 - Long

Pick # 2 - Long

I would much rather the fish take Jake than Chris. I personally think Jake will be average to a little above average in the NFL.

And so it begins, the annual "no matter who Miami takes, they'll never amount to much!" Oh, but I'm sure the 11th pick in the draft will be an instant superstar who's value is immeasurable. Bill fans are sp predictable.

Derrick Dockery= Superstar
Labgston Walker=Superstar

Jake Long= a little above avg at best.

Go figure.

Long will be a good one, it's just the position he is moving into is not a walk on and rule type deal. It takes a few years to get good and having support around you makes you look that much better. Miami is basically starting over, so I would expect it to take a longer time to turn it around.

wow dude, you really took what he said and ran with it. Jesus calm down, all he said was that in his opinion he doesnt think Jake will be all that so he hopes Miami takes him. A little sensative are we?

Personally I think Chris is the best player in the draft, but Jake is the safest. At #1, id go with safe.

I heard that last year when Cleveland took Joe Thomas third overall.

I think Matt Ryan is the best player in the draft (laugh now) followed by McFadden...

I think that Brandon Albert is by far the "safest" player in the draft.. His price tag due to draft position will be bar less than Jake Long; and he'll good on the line whether he plays guard or tackle.

Chris Long = Mike Mamula. I'd rather the Dolphins take Howie's kid than Jake...Chris will bust, IMO, and Jake could be an anchor.

some people are saying that the Jake Long stuff is just a ruse and Gholston is the true target and maybe at less money

Jake Long is a fantastic pick for the Fins. IMO the best choice at thier spot and current position.

Just a great talent at the OT spot and a guy who will anchor that line for the next decade.

Chris Long is a fantastic fit in St. Louis imo, he and Carriker are going to make a fantastic tandem on that DL.

2 picks that make a great deal of sense imo.
