    Rackers gets new deal, job security with Bengals

    Just one week after auditioning for Seattle Seahawks coaches, three-year veteran kicker Neil Rackers officially ended his flirtation with restricted free agency, signing a one-year contract to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals.

    Coming off a 2002 campaign that was easily the best season of his career, Rackers will earn a base salary of $605,000, essentially the qualifying offer the Bengals made to him in February to regain his rights.

    Given his dramatic improvement in 2002, the Bengals wanted badly to keep Rackers for at least another year, and he will clearly enter training camp in July with far more job security than he enjoyed a year ago. Last summer, he was competing for his job with rookie Travis Dorsch, a fourth-round draft choice from Purdue.
