Saints move training camp to Metairie

METAIRIE, La. (April 15, 2003 4:38 p.m. EDT) - The New Orleans Saints are moving training camp back home.

The team has trained at Nicholls State in Thibodaux since 2000 and has a contract to return through 2004. However, it can get out of the contract by paying $50,000 - small change in the NFL.

"Our first priority is to provide our football team with the best opportunity to succeed," owner Tom Benson said. "While at the same time, it is very important that training camp remain in the state of Louisiana."

After last year's final practice in Thibodaux, coach Jim Haslett said the school's practice fields were inadequate and needed better drainage if the team was to return, and the team needed somewhere to practice in bad weather.
