The Bills got very, very lucky with their first two picks and I will take luck over skill any day of the week. After that I have to say that the Bills didn't impress me at all and makes me really think that our 2007 draft wasn't as good as people have preached:

Different format for discussion. You can post the "Bills draft was awesome and I have no complaints" thread.

Round 3.) I think Ellis will be a good backup DE/situational pass rusher and heir apparent to Schobel.

Round 4.) Corner isn't bad, but taking him with Dre Moore and others still on the board?

Round 4.) Fine may be a good short yardage, zone pass catcher, but he's not the athletic, stretch-the-field TE most of us were looking for.

Round 5.) Good OLB depth that we really need.

Round 6.) Bills didn't seem happy with Wright. Omon may be a better short yardage back.

Round 7.) Bell is an OL project and Cox a Safety project who are both good athletes and will both probably man the PS. Johnson looks like a good receiver who could be #5 on the roster.

pick 1 and 2 - agreed.. fills need and we got arguably the best at the position for our needs in this draft.

pick 3 - im tired of debating this.. but one more time. chris long had one year of production and he warranted the 2nd overall pick. DE is a premium position. Ellis is a true DE and is a very good player. I speak from the knowledge of actually watching all of his games. he is perfect for what we need. a situation pass rusher that can come in for kelsay or schobel and has excellent speed off the edge. he is not a project and will contribute this year.

pick 4 - i dont know enough about this guy to say he isnt an excellent corner or he sucks.. i know the team really loved him and that they clearly are not happy with youboty's underperforming "1st round talent" ass.. so they chose to upgrade. fine by me.

pick 5 - i had never heard of Fine.. comparisons are to chris cooley.. if that is the case, i am 100% ok with the pick. yet to be determined.

pick 6 - love the pick. love the attitude and fire, as well as athletic ability. potential to be a starter in a year or two, but will have immediate impact on special teams, which we desperately needed replacements on.

pick 7 - Omon looks pretty incredible on film.. wright did nothing last year. does that mean omon will be great in the nfl and wright has no future? hell no.. but it does create more competition for a major position on our team. lynch WILL get hurt. he runs too reckless not to. we need good back ups.

pick 8, 9, 10 - all are 7th rounders who may get cut and end up on the practice squad. they all have very good athletic ability and clearly our coaches are hoping to coach them into players. im fine with that for 7th rounders.

overall.. i dont see what anyon has to cry about in this thread or the other 10 like it.

I liked the Bills draft with the exception of the 4th round.

I love the Stroud acquisition but am a little concerned if he does not stay healthy and would have liked an upgrade to Kyle Williams.

I think you're confusing Lynch with Adrian Peterson.

Lynch does NOT run recklessly. I don't know what you've been watching.

Omon is a good value pick at that point of the draft.

Lynch is a very reckless runner in the regards to he runs high and takes a lot of hits, especially in "Beast Mode". His running style is not at all conducive to a long NFL career, especially at RB.

Marshawn doesn't run recklessly but he does absorb a ton of contact, which is why he could be susceptible to injury. Peterson on the other hand, has a more extensive injury history but does a lot of his damage in the open field because of his explosiveness.

1st pick-Ledios Mckelvin- i think was good it is not everyday you can draft the top player in the country at there position.

2nd pick- James Hardy-Should pay huge dividens for us in the redzone, and i like his potential alot

3rd pick-Chris Ellis- I thought we should have gone TE here, i do realize we needed a number 4 DE, but thought it could have been addressed in the 4th, all in all should be Hargrove's replacement

4th pick- Reggie Corner-I thought this was our worst pick, we could have agian addressed TE, or FB i think we could have drafted this kid in the 7th round or maybe UDFA (Horrible Pick) We could have grabbed Dre Moore here as well

4th pick- Derek Fine- This is Derek Schouman pick all over it, anothe H-Back TE, i guess brass luvs Anderson and johnson, and Royal, i dont think this kid even makes the team to be honest (horrible pick) could have got him in the 7th rd or maybe UDFA

5th pick- Alvin Bowen- I like this pick alot and if he adds some bulk could be a heck of a player for us, ST will be a demon, and he has the speed to play in the Cover 2, we addressed a depth issue with this pick

6th pick-Xavier Omon- I am all for adding to O, and adding a sleeper RB sometimes pays huge dividens for teams, his production is unbelivable, and after watching film on him looks like a potential steal, I like this pick, and wouldnt mind going in to the season with Lynch, Wright, Jackson and this kid

7th pick- Demetrius Butler- Developmental Tackle and good value pick here, we needed depth at T, PS candidate

7th pick- Steve Johnson- Luv this pick, hopefully slowly inches REED out the door, watched highlights of him as well as watched him play in school, and think he is also a potential steal of the later rounds, has good size and speed and great hands was actually shocked he lasted this long

7th pick- Kernard Cox- Another bad selection in my opinion should have went FB or C here and ended up with a guy with size but too slow to play CB, another ST guy, and proally will be cionverted to S

I mostly agree with the above, but I think that Ellis was great value where he was picked, so I was happy with his selection. A little bulk and refinement of his technique and he'll be a terror for opposing QB's. As for Fine, he'll be a TE who might not stretch the field, but he should move the chains. I agree that the Corner pick could have been better used on Dre Moore or DeMario Pressley (who went almost a full round later). I guess they figured they could use all the DB's they could get and that they had Stroud, McCargo, Johnson, and Williams at DT already. Cox was the penultimate player chosen so it makes little difference either way, as they could have gotten some other player (except for Mr. Irrelevant David Vobora) as an UDFA.

I can justify all the picks except for Fine. Maybe I'm missing something, but he's kinda small and slow for a TE. I have to admit I don't know much about what he can bring to the table that Schouman doesn't already bring. Plus, I think there were some other options at TE out there that could have been had where the Bills took him.

As far as not getting a FB, the Bills did sign Darian Barnes. Although he's not as popular or high profile as some of the other FBs in the draft, he is a pretty capable lead blocker. I foresee the Bills using more H-Back packages than FB packages, thus possibly justifying the Fine pick.

The other picks I have no problem with. Ellis was the best DE on the board at the time, Denney and/or Kelsay always seem to be banged up, Neill isn't an answer at 4th DE and isn't much of a LS as we've seen, and Schobel isn't getting any younger. Corner might have been had later in the draft, but after Greer, McGee, and now McKelvin, the Bills have Youboty who the jury is still out on, and James with his bad back. To cover four and five wide sets, you need at least 4 or 5 good CBs. Omon in the sixth is a great pick, he has great size and speed and was very productive. Bowen can come in and backup and was very productive in college as well. I can't see anyone complaining with any seventh round pick.

The Bills got two automatic Day 1 starters in positions of need with their first two picks. I want to see the rest of the picks play at least one preseason game before I call them a bust and throw out all of my Buffalo Bills gear.

This draft was weak for centers, and the best prospect, Mike Pollak, was taken at the end of the 2nd round by the Colts, who I believe are planning on playing him at OG. Justice was probably the next best, but only goes 285#.

Fine is supposed to have excellent hands, runs precise routes, and as I said, while he won't stretch the field, he'll move the chains. Among TE's this year, he was tied for 3rd in bench press, 2nd in 20-yard short shuttle, and 1st in the 3-cone drill, meaning he's got some quickness.

True they took 3 of them, but they're planning on playing 2 of them at OG. And 2 of them were picked in the 6 round or later.

I think Derek Fine is probably better than Derek Schouman. He's at least a little bigger. He's definitely not what I was hoping for in a tight end.

I don't blame the Bills for being a little lucky in the first two rounds. Part of good drafting is recognizing when Lady Luck walks around the corner and hits you over the head.

Over all, I'm a little dissatisfied, mostly because I thought the Bills could have and should have come out of the draft with a TE who could run better than a 4.8 40 and limited to catching 10 yard dump off passes.

On the other hand, I thought the Bills potentially made their offense 30% better if Hardy lives up to his potential. It might take a little while however.

I don't think the player was available who was going to make the Bills a great pass rushing team. The three best DEs were already gone by the Bills picked. Merling is a good all around end but not so dominant that he would have made a huge difference. Ellis has enough upside that he might help some. I think the secondary is now better than last season, especially if they can stay healthy. The linebacking is also improved, as much by the anticipated return of Poz as by the signing of Kawika Mitchell. The addition of Stroud and Spencer, along with continued development from John McCargo is potentially the biggest factor in what I hope will be an improved defense.

So taken together with the rest of the offseason, I'm pretty optimistic that with the draft Bills could be quite a bit better.

I have been talking draft all weekend, but I can still manage to give my opinion on this another time.

1+2 = good
rest = bad

I had this whole draft envisioned much differently. And, I find it extra bothering that the guys he, I and you hoped were there, where actually there. We just seemingly read the big board backwards.

Lynch does NOT run recklessly. I don't know what you've been watching.

Omon is a good value pick at that point of the draft.

im not saying it is bad.. but lynch refuses to go down. he got hurt this season for that very reason.. he kept pushing the pile and got rolled up on from behind while trying to get an extra 6".. he also got us a 2 point conversion with his no quite attitude.. it is not a bad thing.. but he just wont go out of bounds..and he is bound to get hurt. it is just my opinion. i love the guy.. i just wish he would go down or out of bounds more. hopefully he will learn with age that there is an appropriate time to do that.
