Giants in no rush to trade Ron Dayne, according to GM

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (April 16, 2003 5:34 p.m. EDT) - The New York Giants aren't in a rush to trade disgruntled halfback Ron Dayne, even though they might have the chance to deal him during the upcoming draft.

General manager Ernie Accorsi said Wednesday in his annual pre-draft news conference that the Giants see the former Heisman Trophy winner as a good insurance policy should starting halfback Tiki Barber get hurt.

However, Dayne's status has been clouded in recent months with the signing of free agent Dorsey Levens and Dayne's own unhappiness at his lack of playing time.

The Giants' No. 1 draft pick in 2000, Dayne rushed for 428 yards on 125 carries last season. He has 1,888 yards rushing in his career.
