article about Briere today in The Hockey News

Maybe Daniel Briere should have a little chat with fictional Philadelphia legend Rocky Balboa about how to rally in late rounds.

Briere soared through two playoff series this year, posting eight goals and 14 points in 12 games.

But he's 0-for-3 in the conference final and, at least partially because of that, so is his team.

Last year, Briere posted 12 points in 11 games through two rounds with Buffalo. But the Sabres, like Philly, lost the first three games of the East final versus Ottawa and Briere contributed just one point in those contests.[/B]

When the going gets tough, the $10-million men have to get going.

How many did he post against Carolina?

Meanwhile, the rest of the Sabres can't even get to the first round without them.

Why did you mention Drury in your title when the article never mentions him?

they were never right to let either player go. They should have kept both of them and improved

attempt to improve through trades and signing long term contracts with the players in the first place.

With Briere and Drury, we made it to the playoffs and went deep. Without Briere and Drury, we didn't make it to the playoffs.

Without Briere last year, Philly didn't make the playoffs. With Briere this year, Philly made the conf finals.

With Drury, the Rangers made the playoffs as well.

So, how exactly did you conclude that the Sabres FO made the right decision when we clearly got worse and the teams they went to clearly got better?

This won't be too popular... But if we inked Briere and/or Drury, we would have sold out the future for just 1 or 2 more years of playoff dissapointment.

I'll go with Vanek and Roy and build for next year.

Ryan Miller's play was key to the Sabres success in 2005/2006 and 2006/2007... and lack of success in 2007/2008. Maybe Biron was the 1 we should have kept.

by not inking Briere and Drury, we went for 1-2 years of mediocrity followed by 5-6 years of rebuilding. We couldn't win with Briere and Drury but you seem to forget that we had Vanek and Roy on that team too.

Playoff disappointment is much better than the disappointment of not making the playoffs.

Philly made SEVERAL improvement. Briere alone didn't make them a playoff team.

If the Sabres signed both of those players they would have no money left for Vanek, Pominville, Miller, Etc....

They made the decision so live with it man.

The Bills have gone almost decade but people seem more ok with that.

I'd rather have Briere and/or Drury than Vanek, and I could go either way on Miller.

Yes, Philly made multiple improvements, but his conclusion was that the management made the right decision because Philly is losing in the conf finals. It's a faulty conclusion nonetheless because we didn't even make the playoffs. You can tell me to "live with it" all you want, but it was clearly the wrong decision, and if someone says different, I'm going to respond to it.
