    sporting news: non 1st rounders who'll have an impact

    Seems like a lot of people are really high on Fine. I don't necessarily agree with this assement but I hope they are right.....

    Derek Fine, TE, Bills. A fourth-round pick, Fine will get every opportunity to contribute immediately. He flashed athletic ability and enough speed to make plays downfield. He also is a good blocker who can line up tight, in the slot or in the backfield.

    How people can translate in the NFL is a mystery but the way we TE has treated us lately, we can't do much worse.

      Ok...so first he's good all around TE but isnt fast enough to stretch the field...then he's a Chris Cooley type...now he can stretch the field and will make a big impact.

        Most of us hated the Fine pick, because he wasn't on our list of big name TEs. But I think he's going to be great in our three-step drop system.
        Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

            Sometimes you really have to wonder if some of these sports writers have a article quota and just throw BS at a wall to see what will stick. Because it sounds like he's never read any kind of scouting report, or watched video on Fine.

              Oh, that's right. He's gonna be a bust because his name isn't Davis, Keller, Bennett or Rucker.

                  i'm ok with getting a TE that isn't super fast and lengthen's the field. as long as he's the TE that catches a 2 yard pass and takes 8 defenders on his back for the first down. That's a buffalo TE for you. The crowd goes nuts when a slow Metzlaars kind of player moves in slow motion with people struggling to bring him down.

                  I honestly can't remember ever having an athletic TE that ran like a WR but blocked well.

                          and of course you do realize that there are a solid percentage of pro NFL players who have not been rated high at draft time or rated at all

                          and you do realize there is a solid percentage of pro NFL players that have been rated high at draft time that go on to have lack luster careers or no careers at all.


                          I fail to see why people have little faith in Fine as a TE...
