    Where They’re Lining Up

Converted tight end Matt Murphy worked at left tackle with the second unit.

Marshawn Lynch as expected was first through the rotation at tailback. Fred Jackson was also utilized with the first group and at times both were on the field simultaneously.

With Robert Royal out of the mix (knee), Derek Schouman got the starter reps with Courtney Anderson spelling him at times.

Paul Posluszny manned the starting middle linebacker spot, but John DiGiorgio did get some work with the first unit as well.

With three of Buffalo's draft picks cornerbacks they made their presence felt. Though Terrence McGee and Jabari Greer remained as the starters, top pick Leodis McKelvin worked on the left side with the second group as veteran Will James was on the other side. Ashton Youboty ran with Reggie Corner with the third unit. Kennard Cox did not see much work.

At safety Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson were back together again for the first time in eight months manning the middle of the defensive backfield. Bryan Scott and George Wilson were their backups. John Wendling and Jon Corto ran third team.

Good to hear that Simpson and Poz are out on the field again.

There has been a lot of speculation that Simpson would not be ready for the regular season.

I think they cleaned out his knee. Not sure when they did that or how long it takes to recover.

I am excited to see the TE competition unfold this off-season. Hopefully, one of Schouman, Anderson, Fine or Johnson can step up.

My first impression on reading this was that it looks like they are giving some guys a chance to show that they belong on the offensive side of the ball: ie Preston, Schouman, Wright.

The thing that stood out for me on the defensive side was that they had McCargo working at the nose a lot (I was less surprised to see K.Williams at the 3-technique because he has played some there). I couldn't help thinking that they might be looking at McCargo there just in case something does happen to Stroud (or they need to rest him in running situations) and they have to shuffle their DT rotation.

As expected, Hardy is running with the # 2 unit--although the video on BB.com showed him making a couple of nice catches.

The only big surprise was Peters not being there. I hope it is because he is still rehabbing his injury and not due to any simmering contract dispute.

Evans being held out could have something to do with his contract talks--he certainly doesn't want to do anything that might get him hurt at this point in the offseason while he and his agent are talking about a deal with the team.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.
