Chiefs say Holmes will be ready for training camp

Arthroscopic surgery in late March will not keep RB Priest Holmes from being 100 percent by training camp, according to team doctors. A visit to a Miami hip specialist was arranged as part of Holmes’ rehabilitation process, and during the visit, an MRI revealed that the surgery, designed to clean up scar tissue, would facilitate the process. Holmes, who lives in Texas during the offseason and had been doing most of the rehab work there, was said to be upbeat about the procedure and able to get in some work on a stationary bike and in the pool just days afterward. Although the Chiefs had no visits set up for free-agent running backs at presstime, they figure to draft a running back, possibly as high as Rounds Two through Four, for insurance. Holmes has made it known he would like a new deal that pays him closer to market value for one of the league’s top backs, but don’t expect that to happen soon. Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson has been firm in saying they will not make Holmes an offer until the club is absolutely sure he is the player he was before the injury.
