Despite cap space, Ravens intent upon hunting for bargains

The Ravens came into the offseason wanting to bolster the defensive line and add a veteran quarterback, but it appears the team may wait until after the June 1 cuts to address these needs. The team has plenty of salary-cap space due to last season’s purge of high-salaried veterans, but it is seemingly unwilling to pay anything but its price for free agents. For example, the team pursued Cardinals WR David Boston at the outset of free agency, but did not offer him as much guaranteed money as the Chargers. After losing out on Boston, we hear the team had interest in former Chargers WR Curtis Conway, but only later in free agency, when he would have come at a lower price. Conway signed with the Jets on March 20. We hear the Ravens remain a defense-first organization — one that may be a little gun-shy about courting big-ticket offensive players after QB Elvis Grbac and OLT Leon Searcy were busts in 2001
