    Draft 're-mixes' 99 t0 '03

    1999

#23 Buffalo Bills - Dexter Jackson The Bills add S Dexter Jackson to beef up their secondary. He has 460 tackles and 17 INTs.

    2000

#26 Buffalo Bills - Ian Gold
The Bills grab this consistent tackler who has recorded 100+ tackles in four seasons. He led the Broncos with 130 unassisted tackles in 2002. He went to the Pro Bowl in 2001 for his special teams play.

    2001

#21 Buffalo Bills - Deuce McAllister
The Bills got Travis Henry in the 2nd Round, but perhaps if they had Deuce they wouldn’t have to draft Willis McGahee later. Maybe playing in Buffalo would help Deuce stay healthy.

    2002

    #4-Buffalo Bills-Ed Reed
Ed Reed has been one of the best defensive players in the league over the past six seasons. He instantly upgrades Buffalo’s secondary. He gives the Bills attitude on D.

    2003

#23 Buffalo Bills - Dallas Clark
The Bills would grab Clark, who is the best Tight End in the draft. He would provide Drew Bledsoe a solid target in the immediate future and J.P. Losman a security blanket down the road. He has 2234 Yards and 25 TDs. Last year he went for 616 & 11.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

1999: Antonio Winfield was a solid pick, but looking back PATRICK KERNEY would have been a superb selection and given us a dynamic defensive end partnership with Aaron Schobel. At this stage he could have also been a DE or OLB in the existing 3-4, a reinvention of Phil Hansen. Mike McKenzie was available one place after Shawn Bryson in R3

2000: Erik Flowers. A shocker. Local lad KEITH BULLOCK from Syracuse would have been such a better selection, either as a ILB in the 3-4, or a OLB in a 4-3, as we'd taken our DE the year before. We ended up taking Travares Tillman in R2, but Greg Wesley in R3 was the better choice

2001: You can't argue against Nate Clements in R1, though TODD HEAP would have completely solved our TE problems.

2002: Oh dear Mike Williams. BRYANT MCKIMMIE or LEVI JONES would have been the choice today at that position. Alternatively we could have gone with JOHN HENDERSON or ALBERT HAYNESWORTH and then draft Mike Pearson for LT in R2 instead of Josh Reed

2003: McGahee. The most arrogant selection of the Donahoe era. I still think JASON WITTEN who fell to the third might was the better choice

1999: Kerney LE (R3. McKenzie CB)
2000: Bullock LB (R2. Wesley FS)
      2001: Clements CB
2002: Henderson DT (R2. Pearson LT)
      2003: Witten TE

aka "why the Bills have sucked for the last decade" or "why Tom Donahoe got a pink slip".

We should have taken Joe Montana in 1979
