I completely agree - This was the one area in which Lynch had a distinct advantage over Adrian Peterson coming out of college last year. Only a complete idiot would fail to utilize him in the passing game.

During his rookie NFL season, Buffalo Bills running back lived up to his first-round status from last year's draft by piling up 1,115 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games. Because of the on-the-ground output Lynch turned in as a first-year player, Bills fans are understandably expecting him to progress even further as a runner this season. But that's not the only area Lynch can improve on.

Coming out of the University of California, Lynch was often compared to multi-talented backs from the past like Buffalo's own Thurman Thomas and former Colt and Ram Marshall Faulk, not to mention current San Diego Charger LaDainian Tomlinson. That's because not only could Lynch run the ball effectively, but he also proved himself as an adept out-of-the-backfield pass catcher with the Bears. Lynch was such a receiving weapon, in fact, that Cal coach Jeff Tedford often lined him up as a wideout in certain instances, which is similar to what Tomlinson has done occasionally during his illustrious pro career...................

when trent was in he completed those passes to lynch or jackson. jp blew some of the easiest passes to our RBs.

IN 2006 or rb's had a total of 47 catches with JP at qb.

in 07, 55 catches to rbs shared between both qb's.

We can argue this til we're blue in the face because while Trent gets this and that player more involved JP gets this and that player more involved.

In the end, it's been said and implied by Turk , it was all Fairchilds stupidity.

Don't you wonder how Willis who wasn't even known for his hands all of a sudden became a factor in the ravens passing attack IN HIS FIRST YEAR?

If Lynch was all that and a bag of chips, he would've done better than Willis even if he's a rokkie.

It's not JP's fault that he was trained by Fairchild to look deep while Trent was taught in the WCO to look short.

The blame falls on Fairchild and his supposed deep ball system . The title of the article alone says it all.

Lynch is a homerun threat anytime he touches the ball. We need to get the ball in his hands as much as possible via ground or air.

Fairchild was a horrible coach - but he has nothing to do with Losman's inability to complete a 3 yard screen pass to Lynch.

You need to have a coach who can coach and has confidence in his players to make the plays.

You also have to have a QB who looks to drop the ball off to his RB in time to make a play and can get the ball into the RB's hands in a position where the RB can make a play with the pass.

And, you have to have a RB who, even if he is supposed to make a block and misses on it, knows how to make himself available to catch the ball in a position where the throw the ball to him and the RB can have a reasonable chance of making a play with it once he catches it.

Having played in the offenses that he played in, Schonert should know the value of getting the ball to a RB in space in the passing game.

Whether it is Lynch or Jackson, the Bills have two RBs who can catch the ball and are capable of making plays after the catch if they get the ball in a position to do so.

It is going to be up to Edwards, who showed that he was not afraid to spread the ball around and did a good job of getting the ball to his TEs last season, to get the RBs involved in the passing game this season.

While I'm not going to pin anything down to specific numbers (like "Lynch should have at least 50 catches this season", etc.) because the coaches may decide to use one RB in certain passing game packages and the other in a different set of passing game packages, still I would be very disappointed if the Bills did not only throw the ball to their RBs more this season, but if they were not more effective and efficient in doing so.

That has been a very undeveloped and under-utilized part of their passing offense for quite some time now. And, with a QB like Edwards, failing to make this an integral part of the offense, particularly in certain key situations, is like asking the offense to play with one hand tied behind its back. With the offensive line that the Bills now have and Edwards' quick release and acccuracy with the short pass, IMHO there is no excuse for not getting the RBs, be it Lynch and/or Jackson, more involved in the passing game this season.

Anyone in the backfield on the Bills roster needs to be more involved in the passing game. If Hardy pans out and takes pressure off of Evans, and we can start to get the ball through the air to the RBs, we will have a very nice offense.
