Kennedy is 22 yrs. old It has to be a two year deal per the CBA, The length of entry level contracts is determined by a player's age...the team or players don't have wiggle room with it.

Yes and after that two years he could sign with the Rangers if he likes, correct? Which was S11's point...

When they sign a decent freeagent or lock up a player who has proven himself then maybe we should celebrate.

Signing their own draft picks should be a given. Can't get more basic.

true- teams are supposed to sign draft picks. But when an FO makes as many mistakes as this one has, the bar is set low and suddenly people think they deserve credit for finally getting the basics right.

did anybody consider that they HAD to sign all these players? after letting other players walk/traded their hand was really forced...and supposedly they will have their own farm club next year. they have to stock it with somebody.

Sorry, but the team has still not earned my trust back until they re-sign Ryan Miller and Jason Pominville to long term deals. :::

it's always good to have depth...but this is the NHL. How many 1st rounders are complete busts and how many guys like Pommers excel? You cannot judge 16-18 year olds.

Of course they had to sign their picks. It shows how little faith people have in this front office. They can't keep their free agents why wouldn't people worry that the sabres could screw up rookie negotiations?

I agree with this assesment but that was not my point. People were freaking out because they hadn't signed any of these guys yet and wanted the team to open the bank vault for them. Point is the team got it done for the right price.

PLUS
none of these guys are 16-18 year olds they are College Jrs at least. Kennedy is 22.

Exactly! Right now I still have zero faith in the team. I actually was concerned that they would find a way to piss the rookies off and lose them, but they proved me wrong. But again, if they failed to sign Kennedy or the little guy, i would not have been surprised one bit.

umm, sorry Thurm, but this is not true. The Sabres were backed into the corner with Gerber and paid him the maximum amount for a rookie. They did it because they had no choice.

Thats never going to happen,

The Sabres might not do well at signing UFA's but when it comes to their prospects the Sabres track record is 100%. Something that Jim Kelley (Hockey Hall of Fame writer and ex Buffalo News columnist) said "that Darcy does all of his negotiating behind closed doors, he doesn't show his hand it's like he's playing poker you never know what he has up his sleeve he could have that black Ace of Spades hiding up his sleeve and he doesn't come out and say much like the other GM's of the NHL do". Last year they did sign three players to long term deals Roy, Hecht and Tallinder.

THATHURMANATOR
06-02-2008, 11:33 PM
Their track records on draft picks is certainly not 100% There have been many draft picks the Sabres chose to never sign.... What are you talking about?

Keith Ballard I believe.

Ballard was traded by Buffalo to the Colorado Avalanche (now playing for the Coyotes) in 2003 for Steven Reinprecht, who was in turn traded (along with defenceman Rhett Warrener) to the Calgary Flames for center Chris Drury and forward Steve Begin.

Losmanwins is the type of poster who answers questions with results that came up on google, informative.. sure, but annoying..definitely. Even if he knew the answer he would probably still look it up, copy and paste it to sound more punctual lol
