The question of raw talent versus playing ability is as old as the NFL, often obscured by the way the process works.
NFL scouts, coaches and executives spend years watching players actually perform on the field.
Then they spend four months before the draft watching those same players work out in shorts and T-shirts, lift weights and run sprints, readjusting the board every time a running back runs a 4.3 40-yard dash or an offensive lineman scores 32 or better on the 225-pound bench press....more
