Pats: Big shoes to fill: Washington a possible fit at wide receiver

FOXBORO - Attaining size at the wide receiver position remains a focus for the Patriots. It's just a matter of where that size will come from.

With the draft just over a week away, the Pats are in a wait-and-see mode regarding their big target. They've hosted free agent receiver Oronde Gadsden and talked with the agent for recently released Marcus Robinson, but as of now it appears the Patriots will go through the draft process before moving on to the veteran front.

The prospect the Pats have spent the most time with is Kelley Washington. The Tennessee product is an interesting prospect given his size (6-foot-2, 223 pounds), speed (he runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash) and athletic ability. Washington, who left the Volunteers after his sophomore season, is also intriguing because of his potential for growth, as he played four years of minor league baseball before joining the Volunteers in 2001.
