Saints break the bank for DE Will Smith

New Orleans Saints DE Will Smith has agreed to a six year extension that makes him the third highest defensive end in the NFL and the highest paid player in Saints history.

All the power to him.

He's a very good player, but how does a player on one of the worst defenses in the NFL over the past few years land this contract? How much would the Saints have paid him if there defense had actually stopped opponents once in a while? Do they realize that the NFL has this thing called a salary cap?

Saints are one of the best in the league at locking up thier own.

I don't know if he's worth the third best DE money but you have to give the team credit for doing what it takes to keep their own players.
