DAVIE, Fla. -- The window was a small one, like a porthole on a cruise ship. Fitting a football into it was going to be tough, forcing the passer to make a precise throw that the great ones usually make.

One problem: This certainly wasn't a passer anybody would consider great, not when he's in a fight with a journeyman and a rookie for the starting job. But after watching John Beck (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/406245) throw a rifle shot for a completion into that tiny window, with two defenders smothering the receiver, during a minicamp practice earlier this month, one has to wonder:

Is Beck the Miami Dolphins' (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/teams/page/MIA) long-term answer at quarterback?

That question hung over Beck this winter and spring as the Dolphins re-tooled their front office, bringing in Bill Parcells to overhaul the team. Any time Parcells is involved, turnover and Tuna go together.

Parcells likes his guys. Beck wasn't one of those. That meant working to become one............

Any play where Beck does not fumble is impressive by last season's standards.

Parcells was also impressed by Drew Bledsoe.

But in reality, this is just another case of coachspeak/GMspeak. They need to sell tickets and merch and keep positive attention on the team. What do you expect him to say about Beck? "My predecessor completely botched this one- the guy sucks and we're going to be terrible until I can bring in my own QB."

Of course he's going to tell the media that Beck is impressive- it's his job.

I hate to defend the Dolphins, but it's way too early judge Beck. That being stated, he certainly didn't show much in his limited opportunities last year.

Clearly. Book your tickets and place your bets now (at the Fins' 100:1 current odds, a nice little $100 US bet will pay for your entire trip).

Yeah, I agree it's too early to fully evaluate Beck. He has only seen the field a few times in his young career however he has looked absolutely hilarious in the process.

If he was impressed by Beck, he's probably praying we cut Trent.

yeah that's the #1 thing I've always read and seen about Parcells--his affinity for selling tickets and merchandise. C'mon OP, you put a lot of good effort (no sarcasm) in your posts, this was kind of a lazy one, no offense.

At least from the things I've read, Parcells is a big fan of people that do a simple (for some) thing--work very hard and in this offseason there probably hasn't been anyone on the team that has been working harder to improve then John Beck. The obvious joke for some would be that he needs all the work he can get, but you'd think that fans of a team that gave (how many years???) for JP Losman, would be a bit patient for a player to come into his own. Hopefully Beck will have a better career future, but may the best man get the job.

Or maybe he actually is impressed by Beck, maybe he actually did improve.
Nah this is Billszone, normal logic doesnt apply when talking about the Fins.
