    Game Mismanagement

Another example of poor game management occurred during Week 1 of last season when Denver played Buffalo. Denver had just missed a fourth-quarter field goal that would have put it ahead. Leading 14-12, the Bills got the ball back on their own 33 with 3:32 remaining. The Bills' main objective is to get at least one first down, which would have pretty much assured them of the win. If they couldn't get a first down, their next objective should be to reduce the amount of timeouts Denver had in its arsenal. The Bills ran the ball on first down, and the Broncos choose to not stop the clock. On the next play, Bills rookie running back Marshawn Lynch mistakenly ran out of bounds and the clock stopped. Conventional wisdom says the next play call must be a running play in order to get the clock moving again or at least force the Broncos to call one of their two remaining timeouts. But the Bills called a pass, which fell incomplete -- stopping the clock with 2:36 remaining.
The Bills ended up losing when Denver's Jason Elam kicked a field goal as time expired. The Bills gave this game away with very poor game management . Even if the Bills had just taken a knee the final two offensive plays, they would have won the game.

Now this article seems kinda crappy to me, especially because one of his positive notes is about a team that still ended up losing, but I do recall being royally ticked that we lost that game, as well as the Cowboys game (of course) from what I thought was mismanagement of the game (though the Cowboys game could be blamed on several things going terribly wrong). Do you think Jauron is a bad game manager?

That should be obvious to everyone by now....

Jauron is a TERRIBLE game manager.

Remember the time where he used a time out, then challenged the play, then lost the challenge? He used 2 time outs on the same play in the 3rd quarter and left us scrambling at the end of the game.

It seems that since Jauron has been coach, we always burn at least one time out early in the half.

I remember several games last year where we had the ball with about 1:40 and 2 time outs late in the first half, and we just ran the ball 3 straight times to kill the clock.

Jauron seems like an above average Monday-Saturday coach and a terrible Sunday afternoon coach.

Dick tends to NOT interfere with his assistant coaches calls. Thats the problem. He treats them like men and tends to live and die with their decisions right or wrong .

Another example was against the cowboys. Being a defensive coach , Dick should've countered Fewells call in the last few minutes and we most likely would've won that game.

Well, Jauron should follow Truman's lead and put a sign on his desk that says "The Buck Stops Here."

At the end of the day, what happens on the field on Sundays is Jauron's responsibility. He needs to do one of three things:
          1. Step in when his assistants are not managing the game properly
          2. Train his assistants in game management and hold them accountable when they screw it up
          3. Fire them and find assistants who know how to manage a game.

So far he's done none of the above, and we get burned by it week in and week out.

I think Jauron is much like Marv, in that he delegates all to his coordinators. With Fairchild, that was a ticket to very disappointing results

Wait...you mean...you want a head coach that...is in control of and manages his subordinate coaches? Aw come on...Jauron is such a nice guy...he doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings!

Jauron was not a good game manager, but there are others that are even worse. If you're going to talk about poor game management, or specifically poor time management, then Herm Edwards has to be part of the discussion. Marty Schottenheimer is another name that comes to mind of poor game management.

Joe Gibbs made a mistake last season that gave the Bills a win, so I guess this HOF coach is a F-up as well right?? People make mistakes and they go both ways during the season. The key is to be able to control your own ability to win with sound fundamentals and field the best team you can, the best way.

Poor game management cost us the Dallas game as well.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Poor game management cost us 6-7 losses last year. We were in just about every game last year and couldn't pull it off.

But with a little better execution and no Fairchild, we should pick up an extra win or four.
