Pete Prisco's #6 breakout player of '08: McCargo

    6. John McCargo, DT, Buffalo Bills: After a disappointing rookie season in 2006, cut short by injury, McCargo played much better in 2007. He had 2½ sacks, led the Bills with 6½ stops behind the line of scrimmage and now appears ready to do even more in his third season. The addition of former Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to play next to him will help McCargo improve even more.

Insane, perhaps... but not necessarily wrong.

        BTW, your "location" rocks!

McCargo definitely made strides last year. He still has a huge upside. He just needs to be more consistent. I think the coaching staff was still bringing him along slowly last year. He and Stroud should be dominant at times. Mix in Spencer and Williams and you have a pretty nice rotation. Everybody should be able to stay fresh.

I agree with this and I think we have another breakout player that should be on or right on the cusp of this list.. Ko Simpson. Just watch

Whitner better be a difference maker.

I hope your right. He would make this defense better.

                  Donte is out of excuses.

He needs to prove it this year.

Ashton Youboty will be a permanent starter this year too. McCargo and Youboty were both steals!!!

Agreed, I've been saying that since last January. I hear a ton about all his off field leadership qualities. The 8th overall pick in the draft needs to turn that onto the field, or given his draft position, it may be time to bring out that "bust" label.

And getting back on topic; I love the way McCargo looked the second half of last year.

That is a good point, the Bills could have had a half dozen or more guys make that list! Greer, Poz, Digi, Whitner, Butler, Edwards,.....

I think Ko will suck and we will draft that nasty safety from USC.

Just Kidding. I doubt we'd draft that guy from USC.

I like Donte, I'm expecting to see more progress and hopefully more FF's and INT's this year but for the most part I think he has been pretty solid for us. I haven't seen McKelvin play but based off of the last few years in general, I think that Whitner and Simpson are our best DB's. With solid play out of our DL this year Whitner should be able to pad his stats more and hopefully represent our beloved Bills in the pro-bowl.
