Not even close?? That's just a F-in joke to say. We have a pretty solid O-line, one of the best special teams, upgraded our D and have some weapons on offense. Now, I'll give you that it's all unproven up to this point but my god, not even close?? Bill Williamson is going to eat those words, asswipe he is.

Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf): The Bills appear committed to the young Trent Edwards (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=8346). Favre would be an upgrade at this point, sure. But the Bills are not close to being a Super Bowl contender, and developing Edwards should be the priority.

Can you really blame them? I dont think we're close to contending for a superbowl, until we can prove that we can beat the patriots in the near future, we're no where close..we'll see how good we do this year.

If we had a consistent quarterback I would say we were in the superbowl hunt for sure. As of now I think we are 1 and done playoff team, but if Trent can produce consistently without losing games then we are a superbowl contender.

I was talking about the Bills picking up Favre yesterday with another Bills fan and we decided it would be worth a shot for a year. How could you not want a hall of fame quarterback witha couple good years left in his tank leading this team. We have the weapons on offense aside from tight end. Our defense will be nasty as hell this year. Special Tames always great, so I dont know how you could say we dont have a shot with Brett Favre at the helm, or Trent Edwards for that matter.

Because our defense isnt that nasty, its a big quesiton mark..D-Line, if stroud can stay healthy an if McCargo can turn out to be the first round pick he is..Schoebel has been struggling and kelsay..well, he's kelsay..ellis is a rookie and spencer johnson and kyle williams are still unproven....LBers are solid, poz is still a ? an has health issues, he didnt even hurt his knees so we have to watch out for that..Mithcell and Crowell are solid..CB's are still a huge ? McGee isn't great in coverage but is solid i guess..and Leodis, a rookie hasnt played at the NFL level...Donte Whitner needs to step it up an play like the 9th overall safety he is..an Ko Simpson hasnt played at all, broken ankle first game..so to say we have a nasty defense that will win us a championship, is a little rediculous..

You have a mediocre D-Line, mediocre O-Line, developing QB, thug RB, unsure of who's your #2, an injury plagued MLB, no shutdown corner, bust SS, and to top it off a horrendous head coach. Yeah, a Super Bowl bid should be comprehensible to any non-Bills fan.

Last year this time no one thought the Giants would be close to contending for the SB either. They were supposed to be 8-8, ranked #17.

The Super Bowl is not won in pre-season predictions. ESPN is all about marketing and ratings. They like to pimp up the big citiy teams to increase viewers and crap on the little cities so I can care less what they say.
The Bills also need to prove they are legit. For the last 8 years they have not showed much.

We have a lot of question marks to be sure.

First and foremost is the quarterback position. Here are some other notable ones...

- a former Pro Bowl DT with a history of injuries. Not to mention a whole slew of players seem to be counting on him to make the difference.

- a grouping of CBs that seems littered with a handful of top notch nickel backs to go with an unproven, small school 11th overall draft pick.

- a safety group that has done squat. the most promising one of the bunch to this point happens to have switched from being a wide out just last year.

- defensive ends who don't seem to really scare too many opposing teams.

- a "brand new" offensive coordinator who was on the staff of last year's pathetic staff.

- a "star" wide reciever who is heading into free agency and has a liking for the Erie County's most famous gardener.

- no proven commodity at tight end

- no proven legitmate 2nd wide reciever aside from a promising 2nd round athletic freak who likes to point guns at his dad during family time.

- a door mat for a center with little to no depth elsewhere on the oline.

- a head coach who has a losing record over many years.

- a d-coordinator who is fresh out of excuses.

There is a big difference between laying it out on the field and us completely having no chance. All I want is to to have the Bills field a competitive team and make things happen. To say we have basically no chance to compete for a championship is too far off base for me. If we had Miami's team last season, I would say we our out of luck. We have a young team that needs to
put their chips on the table and play the games. Our schedule alone makes me think we are bound for more wins than last season. We have a ton on the O-line and have put our defense in a potentially dominant spot. I feel our only offensive questions are our TE and Trent's ability to make quick decisions, which I have mentioned is useless unless we actually plan on involving a TE in the program and Trent's own ability to make last second decisions.

Our biggest problem last season was the coaches ability to make changes along the way during games and our general lack of decisive offensive play calling. We gave a few games away after putting ourselves in a spot where we could force our hand and make the other teams chase us. Those types of decisions make me think that we where either too afraid to work our lead or choke our opponents out. The kill stroke usually comes with youth playing strong or our coaches playing poker better than the coaches we play. We have to play to win, not play to hold on. Mark my words on one thing, the chips will be played more this year than previous. All of which leads me back to my the original post when the team performs outright we will win that much more. I just want to see the commitment to winning outright.

I wonder what ESPN's opinions of the fish are, just like when most of the idiots there picked the fins to go to the sb with saban. Lol!

You are right about our line-up though. We could be as bad as you say we are but that line up is gonna make your fins swallow our load.

You're pissed off that ESPN is saying we aren't a contender? You don't have to be a brain surgeon to realize that we aren't even close to being a champion. First we need a QB, then we need to learn how to beat NE at least once a year, then we need to get into the playoffs on a consistent basis.

I still think we're at least two years away from even being a playoff team.

Once again, this is one of those things that I get pissed off when I hear/read it. But I'm not pissed off that ESPN said it- I'm pissed off at the team because it's true.

"After thinking about it and seeing playoff posts on here, it's insanity."

"Until I see most of this come about, keep your playoff bound posts in the spam zone where it belongs."

We have a chance to compete, we are not totally out of it.

Either way, time will tell this tale.

ALL 32 teams have a chance to compete. Somehow I think the author meant that he believes that Bills are VERY unlikely to be the SB champion. In order to make it to the SB you need to make the playoffs. That should have fit in well with your opinion that it is insane to think the Bills will make the playoffs.

It's insane to talk playoffs a few months ago, as the season gets closer and you see how the team looks in the preseason and the regular season you'll get a better idea of what you have.

So after a couple of weeks of OTAs in which pads werent even put on, SUDDENLY you think its crazy to not consider the Bills for the Super Bowl?

Funny, but your quote about the playoffs said nothing about holding the playoff talk until the season got closer. In fact, you stated that you'd need to see most of a series of regular season accomplishments.

I want to see stroud help stop the run, Poz play more than 3 weeks, Hardy go up for the big TD toss, Edwards play in a snowy mess, Bills change the play at the line, Lee catch the big pass, Mitchell sit on a QB's head, mclovin return a INT for a TD, Bills score more than 30 points and pound Brady's head into mush. Until I see most of this come about, keep your playoff bound posts in the spam zone where it belongs.

we aren't close

we're not even in the same zip code of the contenders.

we are a legit wildcard team. but an elite team? no... we're probably 2 or 3 years and some great drafts away from that.

I don't even know about Wild Card, there are only six spots and five of them are pretty much already filled. Are we that much better than the Titans, Texans, Broncos, Browns, or Jets? I don't think so.
